What's next in our sights; the 26 consecutive league wins? Today was 17, right? Long way to go there, I guess.
Wed, 1st Feb Aberdeen 19:45 H
Sun, 5th Feb St Johnstone 12:30 A
Sat, 18th Feb Motherwell 15:00 H
Sat, 25th Feb Hamilton 15:00 H
Wed, 1st Mar Inverness CT 19:45 A
Sun, 12th Mar Rangers 12:00 H
Sun, 19th Mar Dundee 12:30 A
Sun, 2nd Apr Heart of Midlothian 12:30 A
Wed, 5th Apr Partick Thistle 19:45 H
Sat, 8th Apr Kilmarnock 15:00 H

9 in a row to equal it, 10 in a row to beat it. :hmmm:

Needless to say the away games - with the probable exception of Dundee, who are rotten - are the sticky ones. Inverness :twitch:

It isn't outwith the realms of possibility. At all.

Since MON came when we win the league we tend to piss all over the huns or whatever challenger has emerged in their place and on the occasions when the huns have won the league they've always scraped it by a narrow margin except the Mowbray season. We've tended to be fairly strong when we've lost the league.
Spoiler: click to toggle
To me it underlines our complete and total dominance of the domestic scene 2001 when looked at in totality. I'd argue only once in the last 16 years have we clearly not been the best team in the country. We could and should have won in Seville, Black Sunday and Lennon 1st full season and I think Strachan threw away 4IAR. The huns won 11 out of 13 titles prior to MON but have only wrapped up the title before the last day once in the past 16 years.
At the time I'd have said, the 2004/2005 Rangers team that won the SPL is the worst side ever to win the league in the 20 odd years I can remember of Scottish football & if we had won it, we'd also have been a poor side to emerge as champions.

They won it with dross, we would have won it with once great players who were now over the hill & finished not dissimilar to how their 9IAR team finished in 97/98.

That said both of us still cleared the 90 point mark but personally I think the other 10 clubs had declined much worse than either of us.

The only title we've lost since 2000 that we were undeniably 2nd best was the one under Mowbray.

11 points ahead with a goal difference better by 35 goals. Eventually won it by 17 points.

Our goal difference in 2003/04 was incredible. I'd genuinely forgotten how many absolute hammerings we dished out that season :worthy:

If we get our strikers back, it's not impossible to catch up. Tough ask, yes, but not impossible.

Rangers (who were at that point still holding the treble) turned up at Celtic Park at New Year and played a damage limitation game despite the fact if they beat us the gap was cut to 5 points.

That's how dominant & better we were, they didn't think they could recover an 8 point deficit on us with 5 months to go.

Wed, 1st Feb Aberdeen 19:45 H
Sun, 5th Feb St Johnstone 12:30 A
Sat, 18th Feb Motherwell 15:00 H
Sat, 25th Feb Hamilton 15:00 H
Wed, 1st Mar Inverness CT 19:45 A
Sun, 12th Mar Rangers 12:00 H
Sun, 19th Mar Dundee 12:30 A
Sun, 2nd Apr Heart of Midlothian 12:30 A
Wed, 5th Apr Partick Thistle 19:45 H
Sat, 8th Apr Kilmarnock 15:00 H

9 in a row to equal it, 10 in a row to beat it. :hmmm:
I think we got this wrong.

MON's record was 25, rather than 26.

We're now on 18. So Tynecastle to equal it and Thistle to break it

First time we've won 9 consecutive away games since 2004/05.

Another game closer to that 25 game streak, too. Arguably the most difficult one out of the way.
