Yeah with a reserve team, played them a fortnight later at full strength & won 6-0.

I'd rather this team didn't equal let alone break the games won in a row record from 2003/2004 unless it's an unbeaten season, that side 13 years ago is by a country mile the greatest Scottish team I've ever seen. I'd rather their record stood the test of time, 2003/2004 doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

It wasn't the treble season of 00/01, our first title defense in 2 decades & first outing in the Champions League like 01/02 or even the Seville season 02/03 but it was the greatest & most dominant Celtic of the 5 MON years.

2003/2004 should not only have been a treble season but also an unbeaten league season, 0 defeats from the opening game to we clinch the league at Rugby Park, then 2 defeats after we won it both at home :brickwall:

Also scudded the huns 5 times.
I don't understand this thinking at all. I'd be perfectly happy for any Celtic team or manager to beat anything we've done in the past. Would you want us to lose the game where we'd break the record? :ponder:
No I wouldn't, I'd just prefer if the best domestic side I've seen in Scotland didn't have it's record over taken by a team that I think is not as good as they were.

If it happens I'm sure I could live with the deep disappointment.

However if it doesn't happen I won't be disappointed as the 2003/2004 teams record is still in tact. It should be the side that any Celtic team from the late 1970s should he held up against & compared to, the utter domination & relentless nature to win the league back as quickly as possible & making sure not even goal difference could be used against us. 5-0 & 6-0 were the most common results at Celtic Park that league season.

The same year Bayern Munich celebrated a point at Celtic Park as if they had won.

I still don't get why you would actively prefer us not to equal or break the 2003/04 record :ponder:

Even if we did, it wouldn't change the fact the 2003/04 team was simply a better team, and that's no slight at all on our present team.

Similarly if we win 10IAR, obviously it would be absolutely glorious, but objectively speaking it wouldn't be 'worth' as much as say 7IAR was in Stein's 9IAR run, considering the far better domestic opposition between 1965-1974 as well as our European Cup campaigns during said seasons.

I think we're getting into the "form is temporary class is permanent" realm here. The fact of the matter is that you can only do as well as the environment you find yourself in. If this team sets a new record then that's just the way it is. Maybe it's just a good run of form and who knows where it will take them.

Why don't we just enjoy!

I kinda get where you're coming from but in reality, anyone that saw that team and lived through that era know and appreciate just how good they were and how special a team it was. The first 4 MON years were the greatest in my 30 plus years of watching Celtic and no matter what this current team does it will never detract from the MON years or the record we set in 03/04.

Your right in that I'm a hypocrite & want to win 10 IAR & beat Steins record, but it's hardly comparable is it wanting the current side to fall just short in a championship winning season of equaling the 03/04 team record (which for me, was unquestionably the greatest Scottish side anyone under 35 has seen)

In an ideal world this will be the unbeaten season season, where as 03/04 is remembered for the winning run.

If the record falls then like I said I won't be upset about it, I'd just have preferred that it was still held by the 03/04 team.

If the game where we equal or break the record is at home, I'll be at it & if it's a last minute winner I've no doubt I'll be celebrating as much as the person next to me.

Interesting quirk that the three seasons we really should have won the league but didn't we had the same points - 50 out of 60.

Also interesting that five or six times we were had less points at that stage but still went on to win the league.

That is interesting. Makes me think it would be nice to have another column showing where we finished in the league that year, although I hesitate to put more work on to Crossraguel who does a stellar job with this. It would be 1st or 2nd in every case, I believe.

Worth remembering the record set by the Lions is actually greater since we were also unbeaten in the European games; Celtic have been beaten several times during this run, the Lions weren't.

By that reasoning then the LL run must be longer than the number of games presently being touted - given that, to match the record, you're saying the Euro games need to be disregarded. That is if you understand what I'm trying to say!

The record we've on the verge of equalling then surpassing is for an unbeaten domestic run.
