We conceded 2 goals in the last 3 games of 2001/02, so still in with a shout of recording a best defensive record.
Considering our defence was generally seen as the ropiest part of the team at the beginning of the season (a perception that was presumably coloured more by our spectacular failures in Europe than our league performances), the fact that we're anywhere near that record is remarkable.

Checked back further than this and the current best, post-war, defensive record in scottish football's top division is jointly held by Celtic (2001/2002) and Aberdeen (1971/1972) with 18 goals conceded. If celtic achieve a clean sheet in the final game they will create a new post-war defensive record for a league season in the top flight.

There was an article that said over weekend that a clean sheet on Sun would be a >90 year record (can't remember article or how many years over 90. Maybe 96?)

That defensive record, should we get it, would be a fantastic achievement considering how porous we looked before Christmas. It's surprising we haven't heard more about it, actually...

the all time record of fewest goals conceded was by Celtic 13 in 1897/98 but it was only 18 games in the league then so isn't a worthwhile comparison.

In 1913-1914, over 38 games celtic conceded only 14 which is the record.

In 1916-17, again over 38 games, Celtic only conceded 17.

edit - best defensive record in league for 98 years achieved this season!!

I think that's a pretty fair reflection of this season.

Very good stats with some room for improvement. Interesting that this season is pretty much bang on the average (with a much better defensive record)

I reckon 90 plus points is generally the yardstick for what is a good season for us in the league. From November onwards our form has been excellent and if we can start next season a bit better then late 90s points tally isnt unrealistic. Superb season defensively as well given how shaky we were early on too

Yeah above 90 points is a very good season. Above 95 excellent. Over 100 oustanding.

In terms of goals against, I'm always disappointed when we concede more than 25 in the league.

Goals for I haven't tracked that much but looking above, mid-80s is probably the least we should be doing. Over 90 would be preferable.

I can quite easily believe that. We won practically every game that season by a goal or two. Despite the good showing in the Champions League and doing the double, some of the football we played was terrible. Stumbled over the line in the end.

Definitely remember it being pish in 07/08, thought we had won the league by a fair distance the year before though.

Just had a look, 12 points we won it by, huns -who only scored 61 goals- were only 7 points ahead of Aberdeen.
