I know there wasn't a table for game 36 but we stayed third. A win tonight would put us second

Second best points tally, second best goal difference, and second best goals for. Tremendous achievement. Folk can point to the absence of Rangers. If they do, they should be pointed to the bottom of the table.

I'm a little aggrieved that we conceded 25 goals given the defensive records we've broken this season. The best season of only 18 conceded was always going to be extremely tough to beat but it should be noted that Lennon's teams in his first an second seasons actually conceded fewer than we did this year. Nevertheless, 25 goals against is very, very good.

Once again, a huge thank you to those who update these charts. Handsome B. Wonderful in particular these last few months. Think it was an excellent concept of Crossraguel's last year and really grateful to those who have kept it going.

Can't really complain with that. One league defeat all season and 1 off 100 points - pretty good for a team that's "struggling" without real competition.

Need to work on our cup form but for the league, cannae argue.

9 goals conceded in last 5 games otherwise the defensive record was impressive.

Think 25 goals is impressive itself. The defensive (and general) displays away to Motherwell and St Johnstone in the two 3-3 draws were really annoying. The defence lost its focus once we won the league. Look at the goals we lost in those games and those against Partick, Ross County, Aberdeen (last week), and today.

I'm just pleased that the goals Abderdeen scored to break out record were quality and not as avoidable as those we've shipped since.

Given the general theory that Scottish fitba is on a downward spiral, I pondered the extent to which this may be reflected by players from Scottish clubs in world cup squads.

This year is the first that players from only one club, Celtic, have represented Scottish football. I have taken the figures from official FIFA squad lists, which include Samaras. Open to suggestions as to whether that is correct. Nil returns for 1930, 1934, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1966 and 1970.

Surprised how few Rangersb players went to the world cup over the years, indeed at Italia '90 their English players outnumbered Scots. Aberdeen had consistently sent players to the finals from Argentina '78 until Japan/Korea '02, not far behind Rangers, and still alive to enhance that figure.

Interesting stuff, cheers

Very surprised at just how few players the huns sent over the years in comparison to Celtic, an especially as you say in comparison to Aberdeen. I suppose Aberdeen being pretty good in the 80s while the huns were pretty shampooe and Scotland were regularly qualifying must have played a part in that. The huns "buying" of foreign talent meant we massively outrepresented them in 1998 too. I think it could be a long while before another Scottish club sends 10 players to a World Cup!

1998 WC is interesting. Rangers only had two players there, but later signed another 14, from Norway, Netherlands, Scotland, France, USA and Jamaica ; often way past their best. Could have been 15, had Caniggia accepted to cut his hair.

In comparison, Celtic only signed Riseth from this World Cup. It shows the big difference in signing policies.

And yet, four years later, we both only had two - which probably proves your point about them being past their best. Aberdeen led the way with three!

Great stuff throughout the season, really enjoy reading the Stats.

I was wondering last night, which Celtic players had played in The World Cups over the years, and thought it would be something that would be interesting for the Wiki page, http://www.thecelticwiki.com/ but didn't know where I would find the players. It is such an amazing resource that I was a little surprised there wasn't already a page on it.
