With the changed composition of the SPL this season, and without being unduly presumptuous about our prospects of dominance over the other teams, the measure of our relative success may not be obvious solely by reference to the gap to our closest challenger.

That is to say that we may have a worse team and still finish further ahead of the second placed team. Therefore I intend to compare our performance in statistical terms directly against the seasons back to 2000/01, when the current 12 team format was introduced. With thanks to contributors to The Celtic Wiki for creating such a wealth of data in a single source :worthy:

I'll do a bit of analysis about attendances, since this is likely to remain topical. To start with, a breakdown of first home/away crowds. Will look at the away stadia in more detail as we visit them this season.

Obviously this was our first season going to Victoria Park, so nothing to compare against there. After today's match in Inverness, we can see that crowds have dropped away closer to 6k in recent times. This is disappointing given how many Celtic fans are unable to get tickets for these matches and is a problem Scottish football should look at solving.

As can be seen in the opening day attendances for Pittodrie, there were around 5k empty seats in 2002 & 2009. Again these are always in high demand and seriously question the segregation/allocations arrangements for SPL matches. I'm not necessarily advocating handing over the majority of seats to away fans (although it's an option) but there are certainly options to be looked at in terms of designating neutral or quieter sections to contrast/compliment the singing or ultras areas.

2011/12. Did we not win our first 3 league games last year? Hibs, Aberdeen, Dundee united?

Am I just reading that chart wrong?

So am I being thick or is the wiki chart wrong? I read it as saying we won two and lost one from the first three games last season.

No, I'm thick - I've made an error in that entry - away to update it

Be appreciative of any more 'hawkeye' moments

Thanks for pointing that out - missed off the first tie against Hibs, result was merged within all the preseason friendlies in July that year when looking on the wiki. Table now updated and the remainder of entires manually checked so should be accurate now.

The attendance thing is pretty harsh on our fans, it is expensive to watch SPL football. It is a shame so many people are priced out of the game, both in terms of match to match and season books.

However i do have a big fear that we continue to see many young boys and girls lured to support an EPL team due to the wall to wall coverage TV gives it.

I understand people can choose to have sky or ESPN but for BBC scotland to show MOTD on a saturday night where most young fans need to wait to sunday to see scottish football is costing us many fans.

I see EPL tops everywhere now, all teenagers have a Favorite english team, and more and more i meet people who have no interest in scottish football at all.

I agree entirely about turning kids away from Scottish fitba - the sportscene timing is ridiculous. Clubs need to be more imaginative about attracting fathers and sons along and actively work to shift what we know will be empty seats - price is an important element but there are other ways of making the matchday experience more appealing/accessible.

Part of what I was saying in the op was about empty seats in Pittodrie etc. which our fans would easily sell out but are designated home support; a complete breakdown of supply & demand. Living in Aberdeen it interested me that they were punting season tickets with a free kids one from 200ish - this seems great value, around a tenner for father and son, but you can more than double that if I want to pay at the gate on a Wednesday night against Kilmarnock or similar.
