I'm sure that's Highbury....David O'Leary's testimonial :ponder:

I'm sure Johnston scored then went off then went back on again.

Things must be improving because a few years ago I couldn't have bared to look at that pic :ffs:

Quoting limited to 3 levels deepPosted Image
Really?

If nothing else it might confirm JJ's version of things.

No sure I want to revisit that day though. It is one of my most miserable old firm experiences. Probably even more miserable than the 5-1 game, because despite the scoreline, we didn't play as badly that day and you knew what was happening pretty early on.

The 3-0 game was just the feeling that it took too long to put us out of our misery that day, but it was just everything about it.

Utterly miserable. I remember trudging up the Broomloan Road, huddled with cold and getting saturated en route to the bus.

Horrible.

The Janefield Street riot game where we surrendered the league to a dodgy McCoist goal if I recall, was another horrible, depressing old firm. Final score was 1-1.

Despite what was at stake, the attendance was about 50,000 in a ground that at the time held 67,000 and nothing really got going. The atmosphere was flat as a pancake for an old firm.
I was ill and missed the 3-0 defeat in Nov 85.

Stayed in Govan at the time and remember looking out the window at the fans coming back soaked through. The result nearly gave me a relapse.

You're spot on about the May 85 game. I'm sure attendance was low 40's and it's the only time I recall empty spaces in the old Rangers end.
:) ha! How weird!

I would certainly have been one of those poor sods you saw. Utterly bleak is the only way I could describe that day.

It was one of those really cruel Glasgow days where it is cold enough to be deep winter, but still enough like autumn to be wet as an otter's pocket.

Factor in the fact that it seemed to get dark at about 4pm with the events of the game, and it was vile.

The May '85 game... You could well be right about the attendance, which is amazing for an old firm. We'd routinely get 45,000 against Aberdeen and 40,000 against United back then.

The huns had nothing to play for at the end of about their 6th or 7th miserable league failure on the trot, so they weren't ever likely to be filling their end out. There might have been around 10,000 of them there that day, which was about half the capacity of the rangers end.

But I was in the old celtic end and remember being surprised as to how much room there actually was to move around.

Of course after the game, the scenes outside... :cuckoo:

Strathclyde's finest do their worst...

Vic Davidson?
Looks like mike conroy and Alan sneddon in the background.
Just listened to another cracking "Tic talk" podcast from the Carluke Shamrock CSC and they had the author of the Sean Fallon book on. He told the story of Vic Davidson's mother writing to Sean to tell him what a great player her son was, obviously with rose tinted glasses on, but Sean always said every tip had to be followed up, no matter where the source. It was at that game he not only saw Vic but also spotted a promising youngster by name if Kenneth Dalgish.

St.Ants, if theres a Descreen option on your scanner select it, it can help with lines and fuzziness.
