I am useless when it comes to non Celtic players, who is the bluenose going for the ball rather than the man
A hun non entity called Davie McKinnon.
That was the 3-0 defeat at Ibrox in November 1985 as I recall.

One of the most miserable, dreich, freezing, depressing days it has ever been my misfortune to endure watching Celtic.

As I recall Durrant scored relatively early and the huns killed us off in the last 10 minutes with two pretty good goals. Especially McMinn's chip over Bonner at the end. Bizarrely I seem to recall us shooting into the Broomloan in the first half which seems odd? :ponder:

We were never at the races and the feeling was that we were holding out for an equaliser more in hope than anything else. I remember the Broomloan emptying at 2-0 which was unusual.

Davie Provan's last game for us as well if I recall correctly.

All round, an extremely unpleasant day.
It was Swally that chipped Bonner. It clipped the bar and McMinn had a tap-in. That
drubbing was in the middle of two other 3 goal doings - 0-3 at home to Dundee Utd
and 1-4 at Pittodrie.

I'm going to embarrass myself again lads, who is this?
David Elliot ex Holyrood Secondary pupil :rocker:

Was checking to see which game the image is from. Going with the strip it was season 88-89 as he never played 1st team during 87-88. He made 4 appearances, 2 from the bench. He's wearing No.11 on his shorts and its at Celtic Park so it must be the day we beat Hibs 1-0 with a Joe Miller winner on 6 May 1989. I recall from the match highlights i have that it was a sunny day as the image shows.

Bizarre!

I just remember it as an excellent chip and then the final scorer was recorded at McMinn in the papers. I think that it must have been the year of the cameramen's strike, because it wasn't on the telly IIRC.

Mind you, I was 12 and I covered my face with my hands as soon as I saw the ball sailing towards the goal.

All I heard was the roar of the hoards and knew it was 3-0.

I've no other recollection, but was sure it was the chip over Bonner that went in.

You must have been at the game too, because as I said, it wasn't on TV as far as I know.

Correct. No tv footage for that ad ( fortunately). I recall loads of scarves being thrown at the third goal :nono: an abject display, but Went on to win the league. There s footage on YouTube of this game (hun personal footage) if youre a massochist... :blueoyster2:

That's disappointing. I'd have thought the repair of an iconic memorial to John Thomson would have been given some prominence over the years.

When you think of the number of anniversaries..... FFS it cannae be that difficult to fix a mirror.

Get it sorted Peter. :arrr:
I'm certain the shamrock aint cracked.

The frame which is housing it aint there anymore meaning that for it to be displayed it'd need to be rehoused in something strong enough considering the weight of the glass and the insurance i'd guess.
 Good to know.

The damage I'm referring to has been repaired then. There had been a crack on the left leaf of the shamrock.

Really?

If nothing else it might confirm JJ's version of things.

No sure I want to revisit that day though. It is one of my most miserable old firm experiences. Probably even more miserable than the 5-1 game, because despite the scoreline, we didn't play as badly that day and you knew what was happening pretty early on.

The 3-0 game was just the feeling that it took too long to put us out of our misery that day, but it was just everything about it.

Utterly miserable. I remember trudging up the Broomloan Road, huddled with cold and getting saturated en route to the bus.

Horrible.

The Janefield Street riot game where we surrendered the league to a dodgy McCoist goal if I recall, was another horrible, depressing old firm. Final score was 1-1.

Despite what was at stake, the attendance was about 50,000 in a ground that at the time held 67,000 and nothing really got going. The atmosphere was flat as a pancake for an old firm.

You're opening a few old wounds here WB! I remember those games vividly. That draw against the 9 huns at celtic park left me shellshocked! Not for the last time either... Think it was a dodgy penalty. ANOTHER game not on the telly.

But I think they hurt more vividly because of the context.

In the years 1980 to 1986, we pretty much turned them over all the time.

Sure, they'd have their occasional moments. Usually a dodgy, ref inspired 1-0 triumph, occasionally a totally unexpected scoreline like the 3-0, but pretty much every other time we handed them their @rses.

You be pretty confident at the outset of a season that you be taking at least 5 points out of 8 in those games every year. Year in, year out.

I was ill and missed the 3-0 defeat in Nov 85.

Stayed in Govan at the time and remember looking out the window at the fans coming back soaked through. The result nearly gave me a relapse.

You're spot on about the May 85 game. I'm sure attendance was low 40's and it's the only time I recall empty spaces in the old Rangers end.
