Reminds me of the time I went to the ticket office to pick up a ticket for a CL match, around tea time before the game. Think it was Porto, the 1-0 game around 2001. There was coverage on celtic TV of the match, and the big guy who used to present it swans out of the main stand building holding the big cup, opens the passenger door of his jeep, puts the seat belt around the cup and drives off!!!

Everyone standing around was like WTF... Anyway, im guessing he was taking it to the studios where they present from.

That poster ignores every player who was with Celtic before about 1963. No Gallagher, Quinn, McGrory, Thomson, Tully, Fernie, or .... Stein!
I just can't believe that Brian McClair is in the 2nd top row! Above Willie Wallace, Harry Hood, Dixie Deans et al!

the "old" jungle looks very small and quite far back from the pitch? anyone know what the CP capacity was back then?

Take those players out the pic and that could have been anytime between 1929 when that "Hayshed" roof went up and 1966 when it was replaced by the Jungle roof.
That part of the ground saw no improvements between 1929 and 1966.

Before that the only improvements were the rood in 29 replacing the two arches roof which was there from 1909 to 1929.
Those steps in the Jungle were basically the same steps stood on since 1904 when the original Janefield St Stand was burned dwn and replaced by reserved terracing until the roof went up in 1909 after a wrangle with the cooncil who claimed they owned a 1ft breadth of land all the way along the Janey St stand. Until the dispute was settled the Jungle side lay uncovered for 5 years.

Remember too where they are running used to be the cycling track nearest and Jungle steps and also the running track.
It was before my time when the Jungle steps were concreted and the new roof went up but any older KDSers confirm they also brought it forward to narrow the gap between the pitch and the Jungle, thus making it bigger?

That pic of the old jungle is fascinating!

I'd venture it's probably one of the most enlightening in existence. It does raise loads of questions however...

As others have said, they clearly made it bigger by extending it closer to the pitch, but surely they had to bulldoze the whole thing to put the channel with the toilets underneath and the four exits in.

Also, that corner of the rangers end would have needed some work to make it as most of us would have known it in the 70s and 80s...

 Marvellous photo! You can see that Mr Stein never tired of Celtic's successes - even though at this point Scottish Cup victories had been numerous. Sums up a true Golden Era. :worthy:
