You've got a great memory!

accurate in every detail. By some distance, the maddest night watching Celtic in UK (tho a pale second to Turin 81).

It was the fence going down - and spear throwing - that was the trigger for all the Burnley fans to get onto the pitch. It as the only place that was safe.

Loads of Celtic buses went down early to Blackpool for a drinkfest and then to Burnley. It as the huts selling beer that stunned everyone - at that point in Scotland, fans used to sneak drink into grounds by sticking cans of lager down the football socks under their baggy jeans. At Turf Moor you could buy it in plastic beakers. The place went into meltdown.

Burnley were not really known by Celtic fans then but they had a nasty rep which got worse in 80s
I remember going to school and the Govan Harp bus was just leaving the Harmony Bar.

When they came back they were raving about it. Drink, theft, fighting.....they thought it was magic

Our supporters have softened a good bit since then. Back in the day we had a severe reputation.
I remember being on that bus as you were going to school

Nope?
No need to reverse the pic.

In some small way Johnston assisted in mounting up the debt and killing them. They're now deid no matter what MSM media say.

Didn't know that at the time though
Are those Celtic fans in the background?

Yes, I was in the enclosure that game, soaked through.

4-4 but it was a terrible game. Our defence couldn't keep weans out a close that day

Jock Stein called Hugh Birt and asked him to come up to Celtic Park to take a few shots of the new away strip. "You better hurry up", said Stein, "As we won't be f*cking wearing it very often!"
Here's a funny thing that strip was first worn in Feb 1974 and Bobby left for Middlesborough in Sep 1973,

Was in the enclosure myself.I didn't think so at the time but murdo's equaliser ended up winning us the league. Both sets of fans applauded at the end of the game and remember we were down to 10 men.

We would have had black numbers on the back in a European game....??
Just had a sneak at the Celtic Wiki and this picture is included among the others covering Danny's testimonial. We had the experiment of names on the back, and I can only assume that the quality of the picture and the distance from the subject makes that seem not obvious.

http://www.thecelticwiki.com/page/1980-08-04%3A+Celtic+0-0+Manchester+United%2C+Danny+McGrain+Testimonial+-+Pictures
from the photos.. isn't there a banner along the front of the jungle? IIRC the teams lined up and Danny came out onto the pitch with the cup??... it was a while ago! and that definatly looks like Burns four in from the LHS

I started a debate on twitter over the weekend with this one, I reckon it's a European night, bright evening, team about to line up for a photo

Looks like an old Glasgow derby to me....
my guesses McAdam ,Provan,Nicholas,Burns,Reid,Bonner,Sullivan?,Mcgarvey,Sinclair,Aitken and McGrain
I think the moch has these players correct - On enlarging the pic to the maximum I would say he has definitely got Provan, Charlie Nicholas,Tommy, Bonner, McGarvey, Aitken and Danny bang on.

The big man wins again if all of that is true

Heard Hugh also got a call from big Jock for this photograph, Something like if you want to be the first to photograph all the cups "Get yir erse doon here"
