8 players in that team who wouldn't get near or current 1ST eleven
4 definitely would. In fact, those 4 - Lennon, Maloney, Nakamura and Boruc - are probably individually better than any player in our current team, in some cases substantially better.

Pearson and McManus would probably make decent backups.

Some amount of dross in there though.

Sniff sniff. :suspect:
I get it but perhaps you should explain
 Fair enough... Allan "Sniffer" Clarke.

Thoughts on him as a player anyone? He was probably 5 years too early for me, but I'm sure CHARON used to tell me he was a cracking goalscorer.

Brilliant player. Best striker in England in the early 70's :worthy:

Read his book and he was very complimentary about our wins in 1970.

Half time entertainment, OF match, mid to late 70's. Good thing that was not on going and the managers took part in it. We would have needed a crane to knock mcoist off
Zat no the after match entertainment at the 1980 Scottish Cup Final?
Looked a bit like it from my view.

Without looking it up, didn't he play for Leicester City in the 1969 cup final, that got beat 1-0 by Man City? He was a good striker, who formed a formidable partnership with Mick Jones. Leeds were perennial under achievers in those days, they should have won more than they did. ( I remember them losing the league to an extremely dubious off side decision, I think it was against WBA, but might be wrong), they were all extremely fiery, Clarke included. :boxer:

Celtic Park early 1900's, will some of the lads that were going to the matches around that time confirm this?
Sexist swine! Never mind yer lahds....what about us lassies? Yes, I do remember it - as a wee ghirl it would take us seven hours to get to Parkhead by jauntin' car from the ferry at Troon. Happy memories. Sold the best sausage rolls at the snack bar inside thon pavilion - thruppence a shot.
As long as ye weren't drinkin Bovril back in the day.
That was introduced to football grounds in the 1890s at Ibrox where they went on to sponsor the enclosure oppo the main stand with a big Bovril sign designed into the roof.
Very dignified of course.

Spot on. Leeds were second in the league something like six seasons out of seven during that period.

In today's market I reckon Alan Clarke would be worth £30m
£60m if you factor in the Andy Carroll stuff.

Half of those strips look too big for the bhoys... It's like a photo of 14 year olds with some having had growth spurts and others being drowned in the kit

Allan Clarke wasnt just an out and out striker.
Would have been great now with all this playing in holes and one off nonsense.
Played in a great team but we were even better.

They were favourites because both Jinky and Yogi were injured, and we were starting a callow youth by the name of Connelly.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that they had already beaten us twice in the league that season, so it wasn't such a case of press bias as you might think; I certainly wasn't confident beforehand.

1998, what an incredible relief. Rumors spread throught the crowd that someone dropped a pound on the field. The Irish guys remained in their seats
