What's the deal here? Was there an advertising ban on double-glazing in whichever country we were playing in?
I'm guessing a pre-season friendly, Holland/Germany?

the last post by st.Anthony surely proves what a broad church Celtic FC was and is, you couldn't imagine a similar situation happening at the former deadco. Imagine it is the mid sixties and the son of a former Celtic great arrives at ibrox to sign for them, he would have been met by a lynch mob.
Bertie Peacock was an Orangeman from Coleraine.

More importantly, he captained the Celtic side that gubbed the huns 7-1.

Wouldn't have picked out Tardelli or Charlie from that picture, Nicholas must have been on the steroids given how puffed up his face looks :ponder:
Looks more like gentile than tardelli. I suspect the caption is wrong -especially if its the DR,

I Dont think we had a sponsor at that time so they played pre-season with Celtic Fc on the front of the jerseys.

Not sure why but with that strip it could be 96-97; Tommy Burns took Celtic on pre-season tour of Holland and in one of the games out in the sticks against an amateur side a thunderstorm hit and stopped the game (think they won 16-0).
Wee Brian McLaughlin getting congrats from Stubbsy, Tommy Johnson and Stuart Gray

Just found something on the wiki about it.

1997 pre-seaonn tour of
Holland. We were still wearing last seasons kit (the one with the uneven hoops that we wore in the 95 cup final) but the sponsorship deal with CR Smith had expired so we played with 'Celtic F.C' on the front in the 'Celtic font' in place of a sponsor

Beat me to it!
I'd found same thing on Celtic Wiki because after I'd said Tommy Johnson I'd checked details for pre-season tour of 96-97 and he's not there - didn't join until deadline day March 97.

So same country, different year. McLaughlin scored in 96 tour when Di Canio, PVH and Andy Thom were all running riot.

What threw me with the pic was the style of hoops, cos I knew 97-98 strip was back to proper hoops to stop Rangers' 10 in a row.

what an explanation? wearing last season's leftover kit? can you imagine that happening now - we've got more strips than we need, all tied into live telly away games. And no sponsor? That's enough to give the PLC nightmares

This reminds me of my wife's uncle, who knew Bob Rooney well and his greatest pride was getting a Christmas card from Big Jock every year.

One of her family's favourite sayings was "two for chaur (sp)", which was a reference to complimentary tickets. Back in the day, Bob would be at the doors of Celtic Park and give a couple of tickets just before the match, and if there were, say three of them, they'd split the cost of the third one to pay at the gate.

Has anyone else used that expression, because it's the only time I've heard of it?

Couple of mates went over for one of the games in the pre season trip in Holland.
All the other games were like 16-0 etc and the one they went to was something like 2-0 or worse!

It was in nothing more than a public park in the middle of naewhere with a wee Pavillion and no less than Danny Blind was in the Pavillion yapping away to the handful of Celtic fans and buying them drinks.

My mate tells the story he's standing at the touchline shouting over to Di Canio and Cadete as they were warming up.
"Paulo, Paulo, come here a minute,"
Flung a deefie.

"Jorge, Jorge, come here a minute."
Flung another deefie.

"Brian, Brian, come here a minute" as wee Brian McLaughlin sprints over delighted a couple of fans want to talk to him.
"Gonnae tell Paulo and Jorge to come here a minute"!!

Now that brings back wonderful memories. My father was still on his way back from Lisbon, and a bunch of us from Johnstone made our way up to CP. What a wonderful time to be a proud Celtic supporter, knowing something unbelievable had just happened.
