Team: Simpson, Gemmell, O'Neill, Murdoch, McNeill, Clark, Wallace, Johnstone, McBride, Connelly, Lennox Sub: Brogan

(Care to have a guess at who was captain?)

Newcastle 1 (Scott, 88), Celtic 0.
Punt on "Faither" as he played for Newcastle?
Correctamundo. The Toon 'keeper that day was Gordon Marshall Sr.

Uninteresting fact: Dundee United scored five goals at home against Hearts in the SC that day, but still lost.... 6-5!!!
George Connelly's first team debut.

Has to be at Leeds, if you look closely you can see James Herriot delivering a new calf in the background in them thar Dales.

Sandy McMahon, soon to be honoured, in a very fine early Celtic team. Looks like the photo was taken out the back of someone's house:

If that's Tam then it could be Scotland Under 23's when Jock was in charge & possibly Alfie Conn in the middle. They were allowed 1 or 2 over age players then.

Gibson is who I had in mind as the most likely candidate but not 100% sure tbh.

In fact I was completely wrong. The photo appeared in the Evening Times with TB's words 'This photograph, from a training session at Seamill in 1975, shows Jim Casey, Jimmy Murphy, Jock Stein and myself.

I would date that pic as sometime in 1977. All the three players plus Stein were only at the club together for that year and the first half of 78. I have vague recollections of seeing pics of this training session before, the incongruous Admiral training tops sticking in the mind.

Edit. Just seen the previous post. Doh!
