Quoting limited to 3 levels deepPosted Image
When I lived in Govan my pal's Da had a picture of JFK above his fireplace. Said he bought it from a street vendor at Parkhead the game after Kennedy died.

He had that photo on the wall until he died about 5 years back.

Must have been tragic news at that time. :(
I was at the Kilmarnock game at Celtic Park the day after the JFK assassination and I am fairly sure there was a minutes silence. Gloomy autumn day in more ways than one but football-wise, we gained some revenge for the 6-0 defeat at Rugby Park 8 months earlier when both Jimmy Johnstone and John Cushley made their debuts. Kilmarnock inflicted a few heavy defeats on us in those days. In the corresponding fixture at Rugby Park, in March '64 (nearly a year on from the 6-0 game) they beat us 4-0. The following year they put 5 past us (5-2) at Rugby Park.

It is now an old saying, but still true, that everyone knows where they were when they heard the shocking news as it broke
on our black and white television screens at tea time on Friday 22 November. In this technological age we are bombarded with instantaneous news, delivered by various technologies. Perrhaps we have become ambivalent to scenes of horror and violence and it is therefore difficult to compare it to any event in recent times. Suffice to say, that the world seemed to stop that night. Even in the heat of the Cold War, the shocking news reached beyond the Iron Curtain and beyond to stun all of the peoples of the world.

The sense of shock only deepened when the very public nature of the assassination was revealed.

Not long after the events in Dallas, the regular Friday evening "Supporters Club" column in the Evening Times had a new entry under "Rangers" - "Harvey Oswald Loyal - bus leaves etc."

I remember on a stadium tour about 14 years ago whilst admiring the JFK memorial mirror being told the story about the deadco fans changing a spporters club name to Lee Harvey Oswald after his death, funnily enough it wasn`t long before there was a Jack Ruby CSC!

The same part of the ground in view here as seen in the old sixties trial game photo. Big Billy is lying just where Mc Garvey is in this photo.
