This is one of either:

Dundee V Celtic Dens Park January 16th 1971 Celtic winning 8-1 with Johnstone (2) Wallace (2) Hood (2) Callaghan (1) and an OG being the scorers; or

St Johnstone v Celtic at Muirton Park on Feb 6th St Johnstone winning 3-2 :o Celtic scorers being Wallace and Hood.

Celtic only playes 3 games with this forward line in these specific positions, one of which was at CP.

Anyone know if its Muirton or Dens? :ponder:
definitely Dens, that's the wee ramp out from the tunnel on the main stand that's still there (it had a railing in the old days)

this is the sort of stuff you had to fill the papers with when there's a long winter and no football!

The frozen pitch makes me think it's 78-79 (no league game for Celtic between Christmas and March).

I think Danny is the one with the full Scotland cap and others are under 21

Firhill 3-0 win Sep 8 1982
Pretty short terracin for Firhill no.
sorry for delay, just seen this.

It is def Firhill; the old end behind the goal (that now has stand with the student flats) used to have horrible bogs at the top of the stairs - the lands that time forgot. Terracing crush barriers also thick which means they are concrete like Firhill - cappielow had steel crush barriers

Under-23's shooooorly? Provan was born in 1956; he would be at least 22 at the time of that pic.

EDI|T: I think they are all full caps: DP got his first full cap in 1979.

Fabulous stuff. A Catholic/Scottish world that is now gone forever. I also note the number of wee "bauchles" you rarely get nowadays.
the wee bauchles are still there, they just walk around with tangerine skin and huge false eyelashes now

I thought that too but Billy Stark said the other day in the papers that he played in the first under-21 game against England in 1977.

So i've just checked. Uefa lowered it from u-23 to -u-21 leading up to 1978 Euro championship finals.

Just to let you know, Murdo didn't make Scotland debut until 85 - which is baffling - and George NEVER got capped at all, which is truly baffling (got into World Cup squad in 82 but not picked).

What I have found on MacLeod and Provan's record is that they both played for the Scottish League (remember that?) in 1978 so maybe that's what those caps were.

Love all this ..especially the 70's stuff. Teenage years with all th memories.
The Dens park photo got me thinking , did we not hammer them a year or two later with Dalglish in the team?

Cup final 1989?
No,it's Billy Stark scoring in August 87

The Beast subsequently sent off for attempting to detach Starkey's foot from his leg at the ankle, right in front of the Jungle

I used to have the original of this. It was taken in December 1979 when Danny was recalled to the Scotland team after injury. Provan and Aitken had made their debuts round about then so Murdo and George were still under 21.
