Don't know if this has already been posted here, but my mum has just been to see my uncle ( he's the other lithuanian centre half in the back row- not billy) and brought this back. She has no idea when or where it was taken- i think it might be a reserve game circa early 60s. Can any of you shed any light on where, when and who.
Thanks

Could be a LC sectional game v. Thistle on 12 August 1961 (first competitive home game of the season):

Connor

Mackay Kennedy

Kurila McNeill Clark

Carroll Jackson Hughes Divers Chalmers

Celtic 3, Thistle 2.

Celtic scorers: Jackson 2, Hughes.

I thionk you have the right game but the wrong venue - Celtic played Thistle at Firhill on 12th August and won 3-2. What clinches it for me is the advert behind the team. No such adverts surrounded CP.

I'm always torn when I see pics like that one. On the one hand, it reinforces how much Celtic Park needed to be modernized; on the other, it shows the place where I first came to love the club and where I saw many wonderful wins...

what surprises me looking back at that, the Rangers End roof is far bigger than the Celtic End, in the ground back then I always took the Celtic End as being bigger.
Golden oldies.
Just started looking at these. What memories.

This pic shows the "New" main stand so is 1971 or after. You may think CP needed upgraded but if you go back just 6/7 years(if 1971) then the Old stand would still be there, the old corrugated iron roof would still be on the jungle and the Rangers end wouldn't be covered at all!.
Sir Robert Kelly spent quite a bit on the stadium between 1966-71.

Sinclair St end?

Trying to see if it could be that got me thinking that the wall at the top right looks a bit like Brockville, but I don't remember us playing them in the early 80's unless it's from our league cup tie there in 1979.

I need put out my misery on this one!!!

Yes , with the players on meagre salaries , and huge European crowds who paid cash at the gate, he may well have done. This was the end of an era where the directors at football clubs across the UK had more or less a license to print money - for themselves- allegedly :twitch:

Bit of truth in what you say.Players were not well paid.Billy McNeill turned down an offer from Spurs of £100 p.w. even though that was 4 times his Celtic wage.
You have to remember though, that an average price for a league game would be 20-25p and in those days you halved the gate money with your opponents.
If I recall correctly my ticket for the Leeds game was 10 shillings(50p to you youngsters out there).
Bob Kelly also broke the scottish transfer record when he brought Willie Wallace to Celtic for £33k,I think.
I recall a story going about at the time that the Rangers end at Hampden was covered using a payment of £10k paid to QP by Celtic for the use of the stadium.

Rangers end was covered in 1968 and Celtic donated £10,000 to Queens Park in 1971 at the instigation of Desmond White.
