think that's possibly correct...one of his obituaries says he was married for 28 years...

either that or a contractual dispute with the club??
Keep up with the thread !

A few pages back it was said that both Tommy and Roddy MacDonald were in dispute with the club. They were Celtic's first ever out of contract players in the summer of 1980.

McNeill refused to play them and that's why they are not in the pic. They both signed new contracts in early August.

If only it was that easy now.
I'm trying..

there are plenty of shampooeholes even today worse than Glasgow was Wilfred.

I was working in Sheffield about 10 years ago now, and it still looked worse than Glasgow in the 1970s. I can only imagine what that place was like in the 1970s, let alone places like Birmingham.

What Glasgow was though was a dirty city, soot filled. It took the early 80s and the introduction of sand-blasting equipment to bring colour back to the City.

I have to say that despite living in a number of other places, and visiting tons of countries/cities through work, I always love coming back to Glasgow, and thats despite having plenty of huns in it. Its a cracking place to be young, probably not so good to be when youre looking for a good job, a great place to be raising a young family, and great for retiring.

In summary, GTF out in your early 20s and go back at least a decade after!

But to my six year old boy, Glasgow in the 70s looks like something from the moon.

Looking back at the area I grew up, I am surprised at how I didn't notice how derelict it was. Literally gap sites a crumbling buildings on three out of four sides.

It just never occurred to me at the time. Even when I moved to a more affluent area in my mid-teens I never gave it much thought.

I would agree that it is a great place to grow up in, and I am not far from the stage where I could move back mortgage free and stick some money in the bank for a pension. Feck the job. I'd happily trade working in the stress of London for half the cash in Glasgow and a bit more quality of life.

My son is keen. I have a few years to work on the wife I reckon...
a chance to see the Celtic every other week is a big draw Wilf. ;)

That is a smashing picture.

Took me a while to get my bearings there for a moment.

I'm assumining that's London Road school in the background with the old bridge that came down before my time.

Embdy any idea when the bridge came down?...
The bridge came down in 1983.
Interesting. The GlesgaPals website claims the image below is from 1984 and its still there.

Johnny Bonnar Goalkeeper, Celtic Coronation Cup hero had a pub at the top of Orr Street in the east end of the city. Annie T M Bonnar was the licensee and was granted a licence on 12th March 1963 the pub stayed open until the 1970s. She was also licensee of the Toby Jug at 1052-58 London Road at the corner of Arrol Place, granted a licence on 14th March 1967 and was still trading in 1973. Johnny Bonnar also had the Club Bar, 588 Gallowgate 1974-79, the Londoner, London Road 1981-89, and the Spur Bar 296 Polmadie Road 1979-200.

That pub guide is really a guy assimilating info as it was given into him - It is riddled with mistakes albeit he won't know that.

The Toby Jug was Annie Bonnar covering a licence for her husband Hughie Bonnar who was from Dungloe - Hughie Bonnar also had a boozer in Orr street near Bridgeton Cross.

John the Celtic keeper did at various points in time have the others including latterly the Spur in Polmadie now a Roll Shop. :(
