Mark 2 Cortina came out in 1966, it looks an early one
If you're talking about the one behind the mini with its doors open, I think that's a Zephyr/Zodiac Mk III.
The Mark 2 cortina is in front of that mini, a 2 door!

I used to have a 1600 E, a great car in its day.
Really? The slightly pointed bonnet made me think it was a Vauxhall... possibly the Victor.

I went to school with Paul..he lived in Hapland Road in Pollok

absolutely the best player I ever saw personally at school level...phenomenally talented :worthy:

if it's not him in that picture then it's a guy who is his living image!!

I'm assuming the pic is from about 1978-79--80?
Has to be 1977, Shirley?

Championship trophy and SC bit of a clue, methinks.
1979-1980?

Davidson didn't come back until early 1979 - Ten Men Won the League he was involved in.

I met him at a function in the White Elephant in Sauchiehall Street and shook his hand because he had returned to Celtic... was sure it was earlier than 1979; Jeez, it's a bastard being auld.

EDIT: It has to be 1980/81 pre-season pic, because Deidco won the Cup in 1979, and Aberdeen won the title in 1980; the looky-likey League trophy must be the Reserves one.

Some amount of suits on back then.

Maybe they were all coming back from a funeral/going to a wedding.

So much going in this photo.Like a Lowry painting for Tims!
Aye, the majority of guys are wearing suits and ties. The lack of any scarves makes me think it's not a match day; maybe collecting tickets for a future game or these guys have come straight from work (though no boiler suits, donkey jackets and working boots etc) to see the team return?

There's no women visible but also nobody under 18 either. A cracking picture nevertheless.

it's a match day...you can see folk in the terracing

guys in the late 60s tended to wear suits/jackets/collar and tie pretty much constantly....proper grown up clothes...30-60 year olds didn't turn up for football games in those days wearing the team kit

In the 60's the wearing of club colours was not that common; most working-class guys got suited and booted on a Saturday, even when going to the match.

I used to have a 1600 E, a great car in its day.
Really? The slightly pointed bonnet made me think it was a Vauxhall... possibly the Victor.
i would say the picture is spring 1967, because the Ford Corsair at the front of Kerrydale St is an E reg, which ran from
1/1/67 to 31/7/1967 and after that new cars from F reg onwards were registered on the 1st of August and not the 1st of January, so has to be between 1st of January and 31st July 1967. The season finished in May,so best guess would be April or May,also nobody is togged up for the cold and the sky looks quite sunny,so possibly just before becoming Champions of Europe
Was probably in the front of the jungle for that very game as my dad took my younger brother and i to all the home games back then,
i would have been 7 yrs old and could have told you every one of those cars even then

First browse of this thread, where has it been all my life. Moments captured from the 60's-70's are my favourite. Give a glimpse into a Celtic team I unfortunately never had the honour to support. Absolutely fantastic. The recent one of the Lions during half/time with so much evident tension is my personal favourite.

I thought might be a '6' or a 'B' rather than an 'E'... either is possible since suffix letters weren't generally introduced to Scottish car registration plates until 1964 (B). :hmmm:

Ah, Red Hackle whisky. That must have disappeared from the shelves in the late 1970s and I never tasted the stuff. I do recall watching Lanark United win the final of the Red Hackle Cup - can,t recall the opposition- at Fir Park circa 1974 when I was 15. (Brands like Dewars, Black & White and Haig all vanished by the end of the 70s due - IIRC- some EEC directive.

Well, it cant be 1977 as you said at first - cos Big Jock clearly isn't the manager there...

Dewars, Black & White etc just vanished because of numerous acquisitions. I think Diageo own all of those brands and certainly uses the black and white brand abroad. Top seller in France and South America.

No - Frank McGarvey was signed between the two Real Madrid games in 1980.

  the Viva was a smaller car, more like the size of an escort.

Trust me, it is definitely a Mark 2 cortina, have a google for mk2 images.

I always thought the old cars were quite distinctive, but I can see why some find it hard to tell.
