I think that's either the 3-2 game against St. Johnstone from 1965/66 or the 6-1 game the following season; because of the state of the pitch, I'm leaning more towards 65/66 as that game was played in March '66.

EDIT: Joe wore no. 10 in the 3-2 game.

Nine I'd say.
All except Gregg and Connelly.

Denis Law was injured and didn't play in the final either.

Man Utd team v Benfica:

GK 1 Alex Stepney
RB 2 Shay Brennan
CB 5 Bill Foulkes
CB 10 David Sadler
LB 3 Tony Dunne
RM 4 Pat Crerand
CM 9 Bobby Charlton (c)
LM 6 Nobby Stiles
RF 7 George Best
CF 8 Brian Kidd
LF 11 John Aston
Substitute:
GK 12 Jimmy Rimmer

Looks like 8 of them.

I genuinely think the Lions in full flow where a better team than that Man Utd team.

First time I've seen photos of that game taken from that angle.

This thread is continually raising the bar!

It is probably my best ever.

I say this every time, but I've watched Celtic in bigger stadiums, in bigger games against far better teams, but the sheer euphoria that day hasn't been beaten since for me.

Bias aside, I don't think that's even debatable.

The only area they'd contest the Lions is their front line of Best, Charlton and Law. Maybe Alex Stepney over Ronnie Simpson as well.

Booby Charlton is on record as saying that Bobby Lennox is amongst the best strikers he'd ever seen. Johnstone was in the same class as Best. OK, Law would have been better than either Chalmers or Wallace, but I think we'd have hammered that Utd team personally.

As great as Crerand was, better than Murdoch? I really doubt it.

That ManU team was finished after that game.
Went into rapid decline.
Busby should have bought after the 66 semi defeat.
He was right in believing the team was good enough to win the EC, but ultimately he paid a huge price.
