The Real Deal Celtic hero* being in touch with the Support - Badly lacking at Celtic Park these days and something for which Celtic are paying the price for now and wil even more pay the price in years to come.

*Hero is Jinky :worthy: not Yogi - Yogi these days is a :carrot: - flc and a few others on here would concur.
What's big Yogi done to deserve such criticism :ponder:

That is who I think it is?

st,a - Genuinely do you class Jim Dobbin as one that got away? - Off the top of my head at the time we had guys like Murdo,Aitken.Tommy,McLair.Mike Conroy around the First team - Do you think he was better than any of them?

I should probably retract that but either way my opinion remains the same - I never genuinely criticise Celtic players of the past in the public domain - Yogi is a bit of a moaner at the best of times but that is his way I suppose - He has a chip/boulder on his shoulder - I won't go into details on here but Yogi sees fit to criticise FAR,FAR better Celtic men than himself in front of Celtic Supporters then he is fair game in my eyes - Also he got pulled up by his fellow Lions for it and soon got his coat and did one. :Bye:

There are some ex Celts of the past who don't get on with each other (Ain't that right GR? ) but they don't let it out in the public domain.

Saw a lot of reserve and youth games back then CB. Guys like Dobbin, Dougie McGuire, Tony Shepherd and Sandy Fraser were tremendous propects at 16/17.

At least one of them should have made it and this reflects badly on the quality of coaching at that time.

Disappointed to hear that. I know there was a bit of bad blood a few years ago when there was a bit of money around after Lison Lions functions and only the Lions who played in Lisbon got anything.

Yogi, Gallagher, McBride and O'Neill deserve to be remembered as Lions as well.

Maybe Aye - Maybe naw - Would need to think on it re the coaching - You may have a point - Excepting Nicholas and McStay we didn't bring through any real crackers around that time.

I saw a lot of the youngsters as well at that time - Of the four you name Dougie McGuire* was the one who had the best potential.

*His auld fella used to sit near us in the Main Stand for years but hasn't been around this season - Hope he is okay.

Derek Whyte and Peter Grant are worth a mention even though I wasn't a huge Grant fan.

Dougie McGuire was a better prospect than Joe Miller at that age. Funny how things turn out.

The coaching thing I refer to is that we won trophies at youth level but got very little out of it whereas Dundee Utd and Aberdeen had more players breaking through into the first team.

A very poignant photograph. I really do miss the ould Parkhead. The bhoys who played here would not accept defeat. They all knew what it meant to play for Celtic Football Club. God help any team that had the cheeks to score against us. Happy days.

It was and is nothing to do with dosh.

I had a great deal of time for Joe and Willie O'Neill - Both had their battles after football but their unconditional love of Celtic and the Celtic Supporters was always there to be seen - God Bless them both - Great Guys and Great Celtic men -

I still do have a lot of time for Charlie and am fortunate that if I don't see him I still speak to him on the phone regularly and he is a lovely guy, Celtic through and through and has some amazing anecdotes.

I am in total agreement that The Lisbon Lions also encompasses Yogi,John Fallon,Joe,Willie and Charlie but much more importantly and to the point also in agreement with your take are the eleven that played in the Final and won us the Big Cup.

Whyte was a defender so I never considered him re Dobbin - I wasn't a Grant fan.

Would agree Dougie was a better prospect than Joe Miller but then again I felt Miller was a better player for the Sheep than he was for Celtic and despite his lack of height was a better CF than a winger - Used to worry me when we played them with him upfront.

Interesting and valid points re the coaching. - Ferguson and McLean had great scouting networks around Glasgow (and presumably elsewhere) at the time but they did bring the players through to their First teams whereas we were not so successful on that front.

Food for thought.

Utter pish, especially when referring to the team that would have played at Celtic Park at the time this picture was taken.

Not everything that happened in the past was magic, not everything that is happening right now is terrible.
