Don't think he was ever headmaster at St. Brides. He certainly taught there when I was there but he left to teach at St Ambrose in Coatbridge. I think he was deputy head there.

He was my English teacher at St Brides for a short while (2nd year I think) but he was never the Headmaster.
Ok ONE mistake in 47years.

Forgot to mention cushleys old man was also the janitor of st Joseph,s school . So janitor, coach @ blantyre celtic, scout for glasgow celtic and very heavily involved with the boys guild who @ that time probably had 2or 3 teams @ once. Very active in the local scene as well as scouting for the tic at same time. That's what i call commitment . PS, BIG John fallon was not from blantyre originally but from flemington in cambuslang as was the great John mcDermott MBE ( boxer ) who won the gold medal @ the 1962 empire/ commonwealth games in Perth Australia after being made to undertake a box off behind closed doors in a bus garage in glasgow. Dick Currie ( the great reporter on hearing John had triumphed on a unanimous decision questioned in the DR the next day who was the blind judge ? . John also trained Pat Clinton ( croy ) to become flyweight champion of the world @ the kelvin hall. Both men are very very much considered Blantyre Men and what an honour ( for Blantyre ) of having all sportsmen in this discussion considered one of our own home talent. HAIL HAIL.
I used to drink in The Commercial, sure there was a photo of John McDermott and Walter McGowan on the wall.

I met and spoke with John last year when he was coaching my son at Blantyre Boxing Club, an absolute star of a man, gentleman and extremely committed to the kids and Blantyre.
Are you from Denny by any chance? .
