Cumbernauld utd.Jock Stein was very good friends with Bob Woods, the driving force behind the Junior team. There used to be some cracking photos of the opening match at utd's first ground,Ravenswood,in the clubhouse at utd's present ground,Guys Meadow.

What game was that?

I honestly can't recall us wearing that stip even once. I thought it was a leisure style third strip?... :ponder:
The game was the final match of the pre-season tour of Switzerland. A 6-2 win against Selection Jura played on 21st July 1988 at the Blancherie Stadium in the French speaking town of Delemont. McAlpine played in goal.

And a real gentleman.
I had the privilege of meeting Joe a few months before he died and was struck by his humility, sincerity and affability.
One of nature's good guys.
Having Bertie in the company helped thing along.

RIP, Joe.

Mate of mine had that top, can never remember it being worn on domestic duty.
Thanks for mentioning about Hamish- thought I was the only one that could remember his (brief) spell at Celtic. Did he actually play a competitive match for us, or had we fixed up Roughie by then?

(Apologies for straying off-topic).

I have a half dozen or so images taken during a survey of the old CP ( mid-late 80's) I can bin them, post here or send them on somewhere for safekeeping?

This was taken at a challenge match at Ravenswood, Cumbernauld United v Celtic in 1968. I think it was related to King Kenny's loan spell there.
I was at that game - would only have been a kid but have a vague memory of big Yogi breaking a dressing room window with a shot :davieweir:

I'll get it done tomorrow, they are fairly clinical but jogged my memory a wee bit, they are mostly round the rangers end and jungle.

Sure this top was advertised a reserve strip on the back page of match day programmes.
