Spoiler: click to toggle Chic Geatons gets the ball away CELTIC: Kennaway; Hogg and Morrison; Geatons. Lyon, and Paterson; Delaney, Buchan, McGrory, Crum, and Murphy. Scorers: Crum (11mins), Buchan (72mins) ABERDEEN: Johnstone: Cooper and Temple; Dunlop, Falloon, and Thomson; Benyon, McKenzie. Armstrong. Mills, and Lang. Scorers: Armstrong (12mins) Celtic(best active club in Scotland) 2-1 Aberdeen Attendance: 147,365 Stadium: Hampden Park "Even now I still remember the incredible volume of sound that greeted us as we ran onto the field. I had never heard anything like it and initially I found myself slightly overawed. The memory of my winning goal is still vivid in my mind too. The ball was played through from our own half and Jimmy McGrory flicked it on, allowing me to move in on the keeper from the right hand side of the area. The two full backs closed in and I remember as the keeper came out, the goal seemed to become smaller, I just managed to squeeze the ball past him and in off the post." Willie Buchan on the 1937 Cup Final. The previous Saturday i think had set a world record crowd for an International i think, so Hampden holds all the large crowd records in Europe. National Cup Finals/International Matches/European Matches. The numbers involved for all records are 'official figs' but the true numbers are probably near to 200,000 for those matches involving Celtic and the Scotland team. I was at the Leeds game, and we were like sardines in the 'Celtic End'; I reckon there were over 160,000 in Hampden that night.

It was balanced out by being in Milan for the Final. I wasn't in Lisbon but managed to pester my uncles to take me to Milan. In my youthful innocence i just assumed we'd win and that our fans would be everywhere. First thing i noticed was the fecking noise from the Feyenoord fans. First time i'd heard horns like that, it was incredible. Second thing of course was the result. I was gutted and cried for ages (i was only 14). I just could not understand it. We were meant to win. We'd beaten the 'unbeatable' Leeds United. I was scarred for life.
In hindsight, it was the beginning of the end for Celtic as the team to be feared across Europe. Nevertheles, until about 1975 i made sure my holidays were free for the date of the European Cup Final (and it was almost necessary in 1974).

When you look back Celtic could have won more than the 1 European Cup 1967 - 1974 - Celtic for the most part had a great European record and with a bit of luck, fair referees and Dixie practising his penalties we might have had 2/3.
Even 1966 in the CWC we were feckin' robbed.
We were a power in Europe that most feared under Jock.

Two Bhoys living the dream and absolutely loving it!!! Still a season ticket holder but that pic was the period when i really lived and breathed Celtic even though it wasn't our best of years.

Mad Aberdeen fan is arrested after trying to attack the ref after he gave Celtic a penalty. Aug 1967. That's a hell of a wee polis dug.
