WOW abso brilliant find, far better image than the one we had.
The same guys are even in the same positions in the back row.

Almost certainly the 1898 Scotland v England game.

This is the famous image of at the 1900 Scotland v England game.
Check the similarities in both crowds where they are sat on the cycle track.
Check the overspill on the Janefield St Stand (original Jungle) in the 1898 pic.
A spiked fence was placed up around the terracing by order of the SFA at CP in 1898 if we wanted the game.
But the fans are on the pitch side of the fence such is the size of the crowd!
Check too in the 1900 pic, CP is seated. How much work would that involved FFS!

Here's the image. Quality isn't coming out on my scanner - probably cause I can't find a "photo" option. :ponder: I'll improve it when the kids scan it in tomorrow. As GlasgowRoad said I found it in the charity shop. January is always a good time to pick up old Celtic books etc after folk make the clear out before Christmas. I've found original Story of Celtic as well as Tully's book (twice) not to mention newer stuff - all for a pittance.

Not sure about the description. Celtic or smallpox.

That's a great find especially as its basically a bus flyer.

Fourpence halfpenny ffs its no wonder people walked to the game, although the parents of the kids who had smallpox would have had to pay it.

Brilliant stuff.
I was just on about the brickfields and potteries around cp2 on the early stuff 87 to 92 thread. Cp2 was originally a brickfield so would have served the potteries around barrowfield.
Anyone know where the london rd tram terminus was?

Thanks flc.
Looking at the janefield st stand anyone have any idea why it would need so many pillars to hold that roof?
14 in total would some restricted viewing no matter where you sat.
Im wondering if after the storm in 1893 that lifted the roof off and into the graveyard that more strengthening was added.

Jesus, Mary, mother and Joseph.

Never seen a pic of the Janey stand, pre the fire, with such a gradient (cp one, bones tingling).

CI, I said on the early stuff thread, that I would love to be proved wrong, but that is the pavilion, extended in that pic, I'm now a believer, ffs. Look how effing steep it is, only seen one stand like that before, wow

Edit: look at the gradient of the stand and the roof towards the zombies end and the old cp, God that pic is something special, almost as good as seeing an image of cp one for the first time, but, without the need of a ciggy

If that janefield st stand isnt the original cp1 pavillion elongated, with seating put in front and a roof on it then you can dress me up and call me susan.

^ There are far more spectacular photos on this thread than that one of Bobby Murdoch, but for some reason, I really love it.
Me too, a cracker. Still prefer the Leeds' goal celebration.

Cracking photo of Big Billy heading the winner.

Note the positioning of the officials; not sure if it's done that way any more, but it gave a 270 degree view of the penalty box.
