Could it be Lesser Hampden as I can't see the Helenvale High rise flats.

Willie Fernie is one who my Grandfather used to go on about. Looking at the photo, he looks a hardy player.

A great player who was compared favourably to Patsy Gallacher in his day. Also a great family man.

Willie's wife Audrey in the pic was Audrey Douglas who was Jimmy McGrory's Secretary at Celtic Park for many years - I have been told by a few ex players who were around the scene that "Audrey held the place together" at various points during the bad times.

Sadly as cartuja knows Audrey passed away fairly recently.
Don't know about the current situation, but fairly sure I spoke to her a few months after that post, when she was still looking after WF. BF (no. 1 son) at St Joe's Primary in same class as me, and I am on speaking terms with Mrs F's brother, Norman D. WF was incredibly youthful looking... Totally out of it, but youthful looking to the last.

Big Frank Meechan at the back, my school attendance officer.

Dan Taggart front left I think, the local cooncillor. Can't remember the priest's name from Holy Cross.
A CSC in 1966, how success starved had they been? Those guys had no fecking idea what was going to happen in the next 12 months, hopefully in years to come there will be similar photos of gormless CSC members from about now in the lull before the London Lions of 2013.

Springfield Gardens, thats a new one on me WB, the tenements showing in the 2nd and 3rd pic are of Janefield St and Delburn St, the only other streets on that hallowed ground are Palace, Edmiston and Malcolm St, probably the most researched streets in Parkhead due to them all being built on top of the original Celtic Park. As said earlier i would be quite amazed if thats CP with Delburn/Janefield St tenements in the background.

My thoughts too FLC. Our ex Rangers end is far smaller.
Look at our stanchions you stood against, they stand out.
Look at the walkways, there's very few.
Look at the the front of the terrace, there's no white bar going along to rest on.
Look at Stevie Chalmer's right ear, what's that diagonally going up the terrace? A segregation fence?
Where are the floodlights?
What are the yellow lines?, can't have used wooden beams in 1968.
Where is Stevie positioned that can block out floodlights and the houses on CP1 land?
I know we had the houses right behind the goals too in Dalriada St which were too low to see, wouldn't they have been the same height as the London Rd end ones showing?
It makes sense that it must be CP but i'm not convinced.
The only way that can be CP is if it was during the work to roof that end which makes it unrecognisable.

Not convinced that Stevie is wearing jeans. Think that is a bar he is leaning against.

FLC, a penny has just dropped with me... I reckon Springfild Gardens (which appears on maps today) is a relatively recent development, built on the old gap site made by what I assume to me the three streets you mention being raised.

I've not been back to Glasgow in a long time, so can't confirm for certain.

It would also explain that whilst being originally from the East End myself, I've never been able to locate Malcolm Street either on map or by memory - a fairly well quoted location in the general neighbourhood.

All that aside, we're talking about the same tenements. By the time I was going regularly to games away from the watchful eye of older relatives (around 1984/85) as opposed to being in the front stand with my uncles (from around 1978 to 83) these had been long since bulldozed I think.

That said, even if they were still there, my journey on foot to CP was from Ally Parade to Duke Street, Down either Bluevale Sreet or Abercrombie Street, along Gallowgate and down Janefield Street to the corner of the jungle & Celtic end, so I'd never have really seen those tenements if they had still existed.

Anyone confirm the likely demolition dates? :ponder:

At firstly when I saw this pic I was convinced it was Hampden, but changed my mind. Equally others here make a convincing case for it not being CP. I must admit to being now in 2 minds again, but I do think that it is the extensive work being undertaken that is rendering the rangers end difficult to recognise.

Maybe a couple of pics of Hampdn to compare might help us out?...

I quite like this photo  its hampden showing the Celtic end with them tall villa's showing on the far right, also clearly shows the straight wall at the back of the terracing that i believe only Hampden had.

The floodlights are important having been erected at CP in 1959 and Hampden 1961, Just wondering if the photographer was being clever and blocked the floodlights with the close up Stevie?

Numbers on the back of jerseys. How come?
This was the first season that UEFA insisted on numbers on jerseys. Think this was the first time Celtic ever had numbers on the hoops.

On the recent 125 dvd you can see the goals from that game.

Gorbals Urchin, that's why I still think even that photo might be CP, because the initial main stand didn't quite run the full length of the pitch, plus the sections of terracing seem too wide for Hampden.

But!...

Firstly FLC may well have scanned this from a book that confirms that it is Hampden. Secondly, I'd imagine Hampden has been concreted a few times between the 60s and now.

Also, I think that people underestimate the size of the old rangers end. If you look at an arial shot from the 50s to mid 60s, you can see it is absolutely vast.

Must be CP during roofing of DodoFC end. If it were Hampden you'd be able to see the N Stand, plus the tenements up the hill at Stanmore Rd.
