Looks like Hampden, but why would it be there?

Did we play there for a bit in 1971 when the main stand was being rebuilt?

The bank of terracing behind him seems to be too steep to be the old uncovered rangers end (funny feeling that it was covered around 1968 or 69 anyway)

Any older members shed any light?...

This is a 3-1 league victory from September '72. A fault in the main stand structure meant game was moved to Hampden. Great display from Celtic, could've been a lot more. Dalglish, Jinky and Macari scored the third, think just after half-time but Celtic then toyed with them. When greig scored the consolation goal the Celtic fans cheered louder than the huns !

There was a flower-bed marked out for the deid huns at the corner next to West George Street to mark them reaching the Wee Cup Final. In between was the old Information Bureau.
The display was trashed
No it wasn't: it survived largely unscathed for almost the remainder of the year; the gardener is amending the bed to reflect the fact that we won the Big Cup - the beds had been laid before the finals.

I reckon that pic of Cha-Cha is at CP circa 1968 while the deid hun end was being terraced and covered; the wall at the back looks like the one that was removed to allow the construction of the roof. I also think the terracing was re-graded to make it less steep.

If my date of the deid huns end being roofed in 1968 is accurate, then that would seem plausible.

Only thing is the tenements to the top left hand side of the picture... I don't think that I can recall them being on London Road that close to the ground. There were tenements like that quite a way past Dalriada Street, but they would to be visible from inside the ground.

The picture must have been taken with Chalmers facing roughly into the Jungle at a 45 degree angle to the pitch.

If that is the old huns end at Celtic Park wouldn't the tenaments in the picture be on the Gallowgate and not London Rd?

Trashed is my recollection. Yours is "largely unscathed".

Don't think so. The Gallowgate would be several hundred yards behind the cemetery and not visible.

If the picture was taken facing the general direction of the Gallowgate, then the terracing in the pic would have been the meeting point of the Celtic end (which was covered) and the jungle, and it's definitely not that.

I still think Hampden.

OK, looking at this again, I think that I might have been confused by the angle of the shot.

If it was taken just past the halfway line in front of the stand, it could have been the Rangers end adjoining the jungle on the left hand side, but I hasten to add that this was before my time, so i couldn't be very sure.

If that is the case, then the tenements could in fact be Dalriada street, but I'm still not sure that they look like the right ones.

Hmmm!!!!!!

There was some minor vandalism... but 'trashed' is exaggerating to a large degree. IIRC, the Corporation later erected railings round the bed.

There were three-storey sandstone tenements on the east side of the junction of London Road and Springfield Road.
