I posted this story some years ago, but in the light of the Burnley Express articles it's probably worth repeating.

When I was "stepping out" with Mrs BC in 1981, I was dragged up to Burnley to meet her parents. She forewarned me that her dad was a bit shy and dour and struggled to make conversation. I sat down with him to have a chat.

"Do you like gardening?" he asked.

"Eh, no, I've never had a garden."

Pregnant silence.

"Do you like football then?"

"Oh yes, I love football."

"Who do you support then?"

"Celtic."

"Bloody hell. The last time that lot came here they wrecked the bloody place."

Not exactly a great introduction to my (soon to be) in-laws. Thirty years on, he is now a big 88 year old fan. He's been to the No 7 lounge, Kerrydale Suite and the Champions Lounge. I pay his ESPN sub every year and go to watch the games with him. Sammy is his hero!!
He was doing so well until that last sentence. :ph43r:

I was at Burnley Hospital A&E after the match with an injured shoulder - there were many more Celtic supporters injured at that match than Burnley supporters. There were 7 or 8 in the Ambulance that I was in, and only 2 Celtic supporters - that was around the same split at the Hospital
I couldn't believe the Daily Record front page next day "Celtic Fans Riot at Burnley".
There were certainly supporters on both sides throwing missiles - but we seemed to take all the blame, and that was certainly not justified.

St A, glad the Burnley Express stuff is going on the Wiki.

I had a really weird afternoon on the microfiche at Burnley library this afternoon. The staff were fantastic and I was quizzed mercilessly as to my interest into the paper at that specific date.

I am on a "Barcelona Holiday" at work at the minute. Can't concentrate on anything really until after tomorrow night although I will only be able to watch it in Walkabout Burnley with the sound turned down because the Mancs game will be on the big screen. HH.

Ok i thought you had some kind of inside information.

If you watch it again you will see that facchetti is being held back by another player, im still none the wiser but i somehow dont think wee Jinky was asking him for his jersey.

My first game a ibrox. We got off the bus, (Drumchapel 66) and someone from the bus was immediately arrested for pissing up the side of the bus. When the huns went 2 -1 up the bottles came crashing down around about us, I managed to get onto the field and was featured on that nights Sportscene
