Edit: Referencing St Anthony's post further up with Big Billy, Danny, etc...

That's a different place along London Road that they used to train at, right?

I got taken up there with my u-11's team for the day back in 1981 to see the team train, and then back to the stadium for a tour, but have always wondered why they weren't at Barrowfield? :ponder:

Anyone got any info on it?
I used to get a few mates together and make a team up ( playing in the hoops of course) and arrange and play friendlies there once a month, it was very difficult to get a booking, it was that popular at the time.

We played there for about 2 years, the best team we played were Calton Cosmos, they were a cracking side and I think played their home league games there. There must be some on here who either played for them or knew some who did.

It was a good surface to play on, as long as you stayed on your feet and kept the ball on the deck.
Gorbals Celtic played them 3 times up there losing the first and winning the next 2,as you
say they were an excellant side but playing on that surface gave them an advantage against
sides who had not.

Did take a bit of getting used too, there was nothing else like it at that time. it was not a surface for those with a clumsy touch. Good fun though.

Guy on the far right is John Marr. Next to him looks like a young Colin McAdam.
St ant, wouldn't argue, but I thought the guy far right was Ian Jardine.
This pic is from April 1977. Ian Jardine didn't join Thistle until 1979 in a swap for Bobby Houston (I think :ponder: )

Stuart McLaren a hammer thrower like his compatriot Peter Millar.

Gregor Stevens another one of the above thugs now has a gig taking people hill walking on the outskirts of Glasgow.
