Edit: Referencing St Anthony's post further up with Big Billy, Danny, etc...

That's a different place along London Road that they used to train at, right?

I got taken up there with my u-11's team for the day back in 1981 to see the team train, and then back to the stadium for a tour, but have always wondered why they weren't at Barrowfield? :ponder:

Anyone got any info on it?
Helenvale was a great park. I played there once in the 70's.

The Corporation owned it at the time, it may even have been another transport department pitch, they had several, over the city.

Helenvale, is it not? Possibly the first synthetic surface in Glesga dating from the early 1980s. Think Celtic
might've played reserve/youth games there thanks to the floodlights.

Been shut for years, dunno why. Heard some guy sued or threatened to sue the council after breaking his
leg on it and claiming the pitch was responsible.

Half of Helenvale is now built-on. See here for some further info.

 Don't ask the caption writer, he appears to be an early incarnation of Roger Irrelevant.

This thread is brilliant.

I'm looking for a well known picture of McStay celebrating after scoring against a club called "Rangers". The one from behind where you see him celebrating and the fans going mental, I can't find it on google for some reason, I'd like to get it framed.

Thanks.

Thanks mate but that's not the one. In the one I'm after Paul has his back to the camera.

partick thistle v celtic 1976-77
We had just won the league and Thistle applauded us on to the park.

As per st.anthony's posts a few days ago Ten Thirty was the Thistle manager and had built a fairly good team.

A Hansen (his brother John also played that game I think),Roddy,Latchford, possibly Somner but a bit ? on that one and then Gibson.
Guy on the far right is John Marr. Next to him looks like a young Colin McAdam.
St ant, wouldn't argue, but I thought the guy far right was Ian Jardine.

I used to get a few mates together and make a team up ( playing in the hoops of course) and arrange and play friendlies there once a month, it was very difficult to get a booking, it was that popular at the time.

We played there for about 2 years, the best team we played were Calton Cosmos, they were a cracking side and I think played their home league games there. There must be some on here who either played for them or knew some who did.

It was a good surface to play on, as long as you stayed on your feet and kept the ball on the deck.
