Bought the re-make of Big Billy's track top in this photo a few years ago when the Club Shop re-made it.

Edit: Referencing St Anthony's post further up with Big Billy, Danny, etc...

That's a different place along London Road that they used to train at, right?

I got taken up there with my u-11's team for the day back in 1981 to see the team train, and then back to the stadium for a tour, but have always wondered why they weren't at Barrowfield? :ponder:

Anyone got any info on it?

This thread is brilliant.

I'm looking for a well known picture of McStay celebrating after scoring against a club called "Rangers". The one from behind where you see him celebrating and the fans going mental, I can't find it on google for some reason, I'd like to get it framed.

Thanks.

Helenvale, is it not? Possibly the first synthetic surface in Glesga dating from the early 1980s. Think Celtic
might've played reserve/youth games there thanks to the floodlights.

Been shut for years, dunno why. Heard some guy sued or threatened to sue the council after breaking his
leg on it and claiming the pitch was responsible.

Nice post junglejamsie.

Always love seeing some 'then and now' pics on this thread.

Also shameful the number of disused/brownfield sites that sit around in Glasgow yet the GCC will allow corps to build on
greenfield sites.

It was the synthetic surface and proximity to Celtic Park that was the lure - All sorts of Celtic teams played and trained on it - You could wander up there at night and when the youngsters were finished you could end up in a 20 minute mess about bounce game with Jimmy Johnstone and latterly Danny McGrain .

Jinky could still rip the pish out of anybody and no carrot could get by McGrain as synthetic pitch or not he would still slide tackle.

Calton a slide tackle on that surface would have landed you in Cannisburn hospital it was lethal.

I would say it is Mike although he does look young there .

To this day he is still Billy McNeill's Best Mate.
