They knew how to celebrate in ye olden days - arms aloft, gallus. None of yer running about, cartwheeling look at me shampooe.
Ten Thirty reckons winning that game was THE turning point.
Bertie scored two of the best goals you'll ever see in that final. My old man maintains without those two goals then Lisbon and 9 in a row would not have happened.

Bertie's experience at the start of the Stein era was invaluable. That's why he deserves to be revered today.

Was my second ever Celtic game.

What a time to start following Celtic. :rocker:

The 9iar and Lisbon take from the winning the 1965 Scottish Cup Final us exactly what Ten Thirty reckons.

Now that Tommy has passed  there is not a Celtic player who does more for the Celtic Support than that Wee Man and yep I well know (before someone says it) when he got really pished he was a pain in the arse .

Not going to go into stuff but the amount of untold work and visits he still does at 74 is

People forget what a great manager Bertie was for Thistle. Had them in the SPL from 76-82 and they reached several semis and had real bad luck.

Rough, Hansen, Glavin, Melrose, McAdam, Craig, McKinnon and Somner were all sold for big fees and Bertie kept them going.

My old man still claims he would have been a great Celtic manager after Stein.

At the time he was told by Sean he and Billy were the two contenders - Billy got offered it - Ten Thirty to this day says he would have loved a crack at it and not getting it is one of his biggest regrets although Billy getting it helped him accept it.

I would've appointed him in 1983 before Davie Hay, who was very inexperienced at the time.

About 18 months or so ago I was in the ticket office with my (now) wife and wee boy, the wee fella wasn`t even 1 yet and we were waiting patiently in line. Bertie came out the wee office at the side door and as usual that big teethy grin was beaming eveywhere as he took time to speak to everyone waiting in the queue.

I asked Bertie if he would mind posing for a photograph, he said it would be a genuine pleasure. My wife was about to take the photo with our wee boy draped over her shoulder. Bertie suddenly said that if it was Ok he would be delighted to hold the wee man so he could get into the photo as well.

I beamed with pride as my photo was taken with a Lisbon Lion holding my son. The whole thing probably lasted less than a minute but I`ll remember it forever.
I`ve had the photo blown up and it takes pride of place on my mantlepiece.

In years to come my wee boy will be able to look back at the day he was held in the arms of Lion.

My favorite ever player, a wonderul ambassador for Celtic and as fine a man as you could ever hope to meet. :worthy:

I have to admit that work commitments prevent me from keeping up with a lot of stuff in the news, but... did I actually miss the news that TG died?

I'm genuinely asking.

After the game a Press Guy asked him for a pic holding up the ball - The Bold Yin asked for him in turn for his hat and the pic became a bit of a legendary one.

The Guy never got his hat back. :o :nono:

Arthur Graham was a guy I really respected. I remember once after the huns did their usual viking impression on some English town, they were coming under the usual pressure to drop their sectarian policy. One of the rags asked 11 Catholic players if they would play for them, they all said they would but would not like to be the first, apart from Arthur, who said he wouldn't play for them for a kings ransom.
