Hand on heart George had it all :( - I always get pissed off about McVie :boik: and Brian McLaughlin God Bless His Soul (that has a personal element in it which is perhaps wrong of me) but Connelly is the biggest loss of a World Class player to Celtic in my lifetime.

Usually we talk about the great potential of Brian McLaughlin,Tony McBride,Steve Murray (mk 2 etc) but with George he just had football from word go and at his best with Celtic we already did have the World Class Player - There is no danger Jock :worthy: would have tried so hard to keep George (or for that case even Jinky) playing if they hadn't had the talent they had.

I was fortunate enough a few years ago to ask John Clark whom of all the youngsters he had seen or played football with at Celtic since he joined to that present time was in his opinion "the biggest loss" to the Club - He immediately replied "There have been a real few sad losses for one reason or another but it undoubedtly has to be Connelly,no one else came close".

I am priviliged that for that short period I saw George Connelly play football - He didn't make it look easy - It just was easy and natural to him - I sometimes think in amongst all the other shampoo around him being a complete natural was part of the problem in a strange way.

He seemed to be the one most also unspoken about. When i was a teenager, I saw his name referenced in a book or two but not much more, and I'd never heard about him. Scouring books & fanzines, he seemed to be one that almost all seemed to bypass.

You can attribute that to a lot of things, guily, dismay, pity or whatever else.. but he was lost to even those way after he'd gone.

His biog made a big difference (and hopefully the wiki pages also). Deserves to spoken about and his story retold, I guess in all honesty for both the good and the bad.

Jim O'Rourke - Said it before 1970's Hibs had some really good players and were a good team to watch - It was just that Celtic had by far the Best Players. :rocker:

whose the ref sending jinky off is it ian foote
Is that him getting sent against St. Johnstone after an off-the-ball scuffle with Kenny Aird? Think the game finished 1-1.
That was my fist game at paradise. I think Aird was probably about an inch smaller than Jinky.

That happened near the halfway line right in front of the Jungle too. A nice right hand from Jinky floored Aird.:D

Jinky started to walk towards the dressing room before the Referee had his pencil and notebook out. Nae red cards in those days.

Perhaps the best quote I have heard about the football talent that was George Connelly.
