Is that him getting sent against St. Johnstone after an off-the-ball scuffle with Kenny Aird? Think the game finished 1-1.

i think this was jinky getting sent off in a scottish cup game against aberdeen in 1973.As a wee boy i was at the front of the middle of the jungle and after the sending off bottles and cans were flying past my head and i'm never been more scared. The game finished 0-0 but we won the replay 1-0.

The referee in the picture is R. H. (Bobby) Davidson and the linesman is I think Jim Renton (Cowdenbeath).
Jinky had scored in the first minute and had it chalked off for offside. Then later he got into a tangle with Hermiston and both were booked but sensationally Davidson then sent the wee man off.

Cheats then cheats now.

Game played at Parkhead on St Patrick's day which wouldn't have pleased the Orange officials.

Renton used to joke about getting a lift to Ibrox/Rangers matches with the flute band bus to officiate.

Post Script. On 6 April Johnstone acted as his own advocate when the case came before the SFA beaks and he won and had the sending off overturned as it had been for an incident not seen by the referee who had acted on the word of his linesman after he had booked Jimmy.
