Someone mentioned the adverts being interesting, which I certainly agree with. Note Eddie Trainer accepts bets by post.

Telephone numbers- just remember Central etc, then 4 numbers.

With it being advertised in TWGB, I'm assuming The Snug was a Celtic shop, but in that location?

Any of the old timers remember the name of the restaurant that the Celtic used for meals after games etc. It was, if I remember right, situated

at the corner of Buchanan St and Cathedral St and was one stair up, very popular restaurant. Would it be Ferrari's ????. Im talking back in 1940/50s.

Willie Maley owned The Bank restaurant on Queen Street, I'm sure I remember reading that was the favoured post match haunt for players in the 20's/30's.

New players and oddly leaving players were celebrated there as well.

Unless you are Jock Gilchrist ;) , you would have got a night at The Bank for free when you were bought by another club.

Was The Vale in Queen Street not an old haunt of the players in the 40's & 50's?

Ferrari's was on the north side of Sauchiehall Street directly across the road from where Dino's Italian restaurant is now.

AS CB says, adjacent to the West Nile Street corner.

A Pret-a-Manger is there now.

I should have said its a 70's building - the building that Ferraris was in was knocked down by the Council in the late 60's.

Betting Shops weren't licensed until 1961; before then you had to bet by post or use bookies' 'runners'.
