Unusual angle, this one. Most I've seen are taken from the main stand side.

Back, l. t. r. T. Maguire (Co-Trainer), James Kelly, Allan Martin, Daniel Doyle, Bernard Joseph Battles, William Ferguson; Middle, l. t. r. John Maddon, Alexander McMahon, Peter Meechan, William Maley; Front, l. t. r. James Blessington, Daniel McArthur.

Quite apropos this one considering Barneys grave.
Next to Dan Doyle whose grave has already been marked by CGS.

When Barney died Dan Doyle and Sandy McMahon (both in pic) were two of his pall bearers.

Peter Meechan (in pic) along with Barney and John Divers (not in pic) went on strike because of the pish being spewed out* by the Press at the time.

Celtic Park Scotland v England April 1894 Score 2-2, as far as i am aware
this photograph has never been seen before except on the WIKI & CGS.

see a much closer up pic i have added to the wiki

http://www.thecelticwiki.com/page/Celtic+Park+-+Pre-war+stadium+pics

This is now the earliest known picture of Celtic Park only 2 years old and is one of the most significant finds on the Timternet ever.

 :worthy: :worthy: :worthy: :worthy:
Yes i thought the Celtic Historians would like and appreciate this one.

I could not believe my luck when i was browsing a large album of real photographs yesterday,
all the photos were of very early Glasgow, probably about 100 and this was the only one relating
to football, i have no doubt this was taken by a local photographer and is the only one that exists,

It also proves something to us that love the history of early Celtic Park, it shows that there was
terracing on the main stand side before the Grant stand, the larger pic which i have added to the
wiki is quite amazing and im a wee bit dissapointed that its Scotland and not Celtic that are playing,
oh well i will just have to continue my quest to find photos of the old Celtic Park.

Gil Heron

Gil Heron was born in Kingston, Jamaica. He had been plying his trade with Detroit Corinthians when noticed by Glasgow Celtic on their 1951 US Tour. (The prolific Heron has been top scorer for the Detroit Wolverines in North American Soccer League in 1946.) He was invited to Scotland to take part in a trial at Celtic Park on August 4, 1951. He scored two goals.

Celtic signed him and he made his debut on August 18, 1951 in a League Cup tie against Morton at Celtic Park. He scored once in a 2-0 victory.

He played one season at Celtic, making five appearances and scoring two goals before lower division Lanark.

His son Gil Scott Heron when interviewed by the Times’ Gerry Hassan said, “My dad always looks for the Celtic results,” noting the special place the Scots have “music and football”.

During his year at Celtic, he was best known for what one contemporary described as “camera-shutter speed”. Off the park, he played cricket for Poloc and Ferguslie and stayed in a hotel in the centre of Glasgow.

Sean Fallon, a team-mate, remembers him as a man about town who loved his music — spent a lot of time after training in the music section at Lewis’s department store, listening to the latest American imports.

Gil Heron passed away at the age of 87 in November 2008 in Detroit, Michigan.

Nicked that for my Facebook :worthy:

That was the 1969 WC qualifier away to W. Germany; Jinky scored after three minutes, WG went ahead 2-1 before Gilzean equalised with a trademark header. I think WG's winner was from a penalty. Big Tam got sent off for booting Vogts(?) up the Ronson.
