Not quite Celtic; more St Rochs; but there are Celtic connections.

Many thanks to Cartuja for reformatting the images; changing the rotation; the filetype and the dimensions and combining the pics and annotations.. :rocker:

The below is for Joe Bloggs info..

My Gran... her name is Healy and her father William James Healy (but known as James) was the only one who was using Healy in the Hilley family and is explained by my Grans brother Jim. Jim says his father told him that afer the family moved from Pettigo in Donegal and James being the eldest; a few years prior to world war 1 the younger siblings (Of which Con and Hugh were part of) were being enrolled in school and the Glasgow School Authorities told them that "It is impossible to have or spell a name Hilly or Hilley".

James was about to join the army and after a family consultation they decided to change the family name to Healy to

satisfy the School Authorities as they had a lot of power back then; more so than today. So they were all changed

to Healy. James and his brothers Patrick and Edward went to war. Only James came back. He was demobbed as William

James Healy on his papers and it stuck. Meanwhile the rest of the family had reverted back to Hilley; most of whom reside in the USA now. Con and Hugh Hilley were the younger brothers of William James Healy.

My Gran says Hugh stayed in Castle Street in Royston; then moved to Giffnock.

From my Grans brother Jim's memoirs from 1992 (of which i have scanned copies) he confirms that Hugh did indeed win

a Scottish Cup Winners Medal in 1925; of which he was very proud. He was also returned from that Army camp in Chiseldon (where Jim also stayed con-incidently) for being an under age volunteer. A friend of Jims bought the army camp a few years before 1992 and its now a farm.

Cornelius (Con) Hilley
Hugh and Con were brothers. Hugh played for St Rochs amongst others.

From my Grans brother Jims memoirs from 1992 he states Con (Jim visited Con in his house in Croydon where

Jim moved to for a time as well co-incidentially) played for Celtic; Crystal Palace & Bury FC. He also captained

Derry City in Ireland and is reputed to have a street named after him there.

Jimmy McGrory

http://www.ntvcelticfanzine.com/reviews/review%20146%20mcgrory.htm

Jimmy McGrory
"Jimmy was born on April 26th 1904 at 179 Millburn Street and was baptised at St. Mungo's on May 2nd. Like many an

Irish immigrant of the time, his father harry could only witness the birth certificate with his mark, a cross. Hugh

Hilley's father and mother were godparents to the babe."

My Gran's Grandfather Edward Hilley (of Pettigo Donegal) & Grandmother Susan Hilley (maiden name Gallacher of

Tullyvogey in Fermanagh) were Jimmy McGrorys Godparents.

"He walked it to training with Hugh Hilley with Garngad's unemployed dogging him every step of the way."

Hugh and Jimmy were very good friends for a very long time.

My Gran remembers "Mr McGrory" as she calls him; from when she stayed on Royston Road and then Millburn Street; in

the Garngad where she was born and raised. Her words .. "A Gentleman".

I've only seen one of those photos before (the 1928 Celtic one).

Just stunning and priceless additions to the pictorial history of our club. :worthy:

The 1967 Cup Final.

That has got to be the Cup Final in any tournament that I was, throughout the match, so sure that Celtic would win. We were so comfortable. Maybe the only other one I recall like that was the 1974 Cup Final against Dundee United (I'm sure that old duffer Wattie was playing for them that day).

I think it 67, and Smith did play for the arabs in 1974, before the surnamectomy.
