Once saw a bizarre reference to big Latchford being a massive Tolkein and an authority on the subject - anyone hear this? :o

Don't know, but I'd guess from what looks like quite nice weather and a pitch covered in grass (and not mud) it might be from one of the league cup games earlier that season (so, actually 1960, not 61).

The club website used to have historical results, but that seems to have been removed now.

Note inaccurate caption - apparently, Celtic won nine trophies in the 1965-66 season.

Superb. Many thanks - my all-time favourite player. Saw him play fives at John Wright Centre in EK circa 1976 - awesome.

A few images from season 1972-73 recently added to the Celtic Wiki. Referee Bobby Davidson features heavily.

The first two are of Jinky's infamous senting off V Aberdeen in March 73. Davidson sent JJ off despite not seeing the alleged incident. The second pic show GC trying to calm the fans after bottles began being thrown on to the pitch.

Note the image of Jock Stein. This November 1st 1972 and taken was after 90 mins in the League Cup QF second-leg clash with Dundee at Celtic Park, which was about to go into extra time. Jock walked to the centre circle to confront Davidson. It's an image which doesn't really suit the agenda of some who try to put the boot into Neil Lennon by declaring "Jock Stein wouldn't have done that..."

The last one is of Dixie Deans following a 2-2 draw with East Fife. Dixie scored both - including a late equaliser - ona day when apparently three Celts missed from the penalty.

Card carrying ? Dont you mean bead rattling ?

Davidson was definitely the worst referee ever to disgrace a football pitch.

Since we're on the topic of refs, here's Tiny Wharton from when things got a bit fighty around 1969-70.
