Found out the McPhails were full cousins of my mate's gran. Loving the pics.
They were my mate's uncles, who were also father and uncle respectively of Scott Fitzgerald (birthname Billy McPhail) who represented the UK at Eurovision in 1988 - he lost by a single point to the well-known Swiss artist Celine Dion.

There was something going on in Rome particularly for 1950, whereby a load of Catholic parishes organised trips there. Can't remember the specifics. Holy Year or something ? I know it was the one time my grandparents ever left the country.

1950 was a Jubilee Year (as was 2000): a special year of remission of sins and universal pardon. Wikipedia says so.

Is that the huns were playing against in the shamrock strip? If so thats the first time ive heard of us not wesring the home strip v the huns.
As TWG says it was the semi final replay against Kilmarnock who are wearing their away strip as they also wore hoops back then, the great ex-celt Malky McDonald was the killie manager that day and the player shooting is Alec (Alice) Byrne who i have mistaken for Bertie Peacock in the past.

Mackay (2) Jackson (8) Crerand (4) Divers (10) Possibly Hughes and McNeill :suspect:

The 61-62 Scottish Cup game at Tynecastle when Paddy scored the winning (retaken) penalty to make it 4-3

Willie Wallace also played in that game and at the time described it as one he will never forget.

Looks as if Willie is playing in trainers in the bottom picture.
