Is this something about hairy balls (footballs of course)?
This was part of a tv feature,I think Chick Young was the interviewer,as Arbroath were on a cup run It ended with the fans singing,to the tune of stairway to heaven.....

Theres a man over there,
With some grey in his beard
And he's riding a stairway to Hampden

It sticks in my mind Chick pointing out that the final wasnt at Hampden that year.

If I remember correctly Arbroath went on a bit of a beard craze after Danny took over as Manager. Beards weren't as common as they are now (just shows you how fashions change) & their fans got a bit of publicity for wearing those false beards to the games as a tribute to Danny.

Some great stuff today CE
The fans named themselves” Danny McGrain’s bearded army” and used to chant this for ages on repeat.

Arbroath had their highest average gates under Danny. Went from 3-400 to 900-1000.

I wonder what game in London this was? :ponder:

Judging by the styles, you'd have to date it mid-eighties.

I was at David O'Leary's testimonial and don't remember it being as sunny as this picture.

Any ideas anyone?...

Did we not beat them 9-0 about that time.
And in Danny’s own words “it was the 8th goal that beat us”

I remember being at that game, their goalie was extremely poor. As we ripped through them again Andy Payton (I think) was 1 on 1 and someone shouted just as he was about to pull the trigger “aim for his hands!” I swear Payton was pissing himself even though he shot wide.
