:ph43r: Standing right behind the incident when it happened Bertie stood near to the corner flag inviting a challenge (lunge) from Provan jumping clear from the challenge (lunge) Bertie came down on big Dave's ankle I think most Celtic fans who where at the game would agree with that.
I suppose if you jump up to avoid a tackle you gotta come down :)
Yes,Bertie was being Bertie. Karma being Karma. :)

Bertie went out for retribution, and to put a stop to Provan's thuggery.

He wouldn't have been able to foresee the final outcome, but he went into do him, and rightly so, as I've heard it told.

And the byline is always;
The snap could be heard in every corner of the ground.

Was probably the day they realised who the new bosses in town were gonna be :)

Who can guess the opposition ?
I would guess Third Lanark as they had Arsenal style strips, but it's probably not. The collar on our strip would indicate it is a late 50's/early 60's game. It's a night match, but not Valencia.

Basically, I have no idea.

Caption says ' Celtic fans queing for tickets at the hunnery'

Looks to be 50's? Would that have been safe at the ground, was their a significant number of police as you waited to get in?

Sorry for all the questions but it looks very normal in that image.
Looks like fans queuing up to get into the West Enclosure. That looks like the old houses that were demolished about 5 years ago that sat on the junction of Edmiston Drive and Broomloan Road. The building that looks like a stand would be the Albion training ground, but I ain't old enough to remember that. Older guys might remember a structure there. By the time I was a kid, it was a big grey wall.

Didn't stop the locals obtaining "Derby Star" footballs though.

Edit - Have we ever played Hungary in a friendly?
