I absolutely effing love him too!

Can be fewer greater servants to the club than him. A magnificent man and one of very few Scottish players who could legitimately get into a world XI in the 1970s and early 80s.

Him and Dalglish and that's it. Even then, competition in Dalglish's position would rule him out.

Danny was as good as any right back or left back in the world at that time.

Reserve game played on Friday night in 1972. Decent crowd in the Jungle.

I was in hospital a few weeks ago and to numb the pain I went onto a hun forum (laughter is medicinal). I came across a couple of images I would love to get more information on, the first is a picture of Corporal Angus. I've seen the image before but wasn't aware that it was at the bigotdome. What was the story behind the image, was he still contracted to Celtic when this was taken? Back then were the huns into all the 'i love the military' stuff they flout today?

The second image was of the match where Davy Provan's leg was broken in a clash with Bertie Auld. I was surprised to see that Bertie is despised by a fair number of the older knuckle draggers and they claim that he deliberately went to break Provan's leg. What was the truth of what happened that night?

Was Bertie sent off, he isn't in this image?

I have also seen that thread on FF. The hate Bertie alright :rocker:

My Dad was there that day and said you could hear the crack from the side of the park. Apparently Provan had been dishing it out and wee Bertie took 'retribution'. Harder guys than Provan tried it with Bertie. They all failed.

From what I can gather he never even got booked.

Clumsy tackles can end up badly, just ask Frank Beattie.

Would this have been some sort of wartime fund raising event? Whether Rangers then, had the same Apartheid policies that were present after partition a few years afterwards is open for conjecture, Corporal Angus VC would have been a huge hero to most Glaswegians then .

My brother was there and said that Provan lunged at Bertie who just jumped up and made sure he came down in the right place ;)

As Matt Busby told Paddy C "you can do far more damage with your feet than you can with your hands!"

:ph43r: Standing right behind the incident when it happened Bertie stood near to the corner flag inviting a challenge (lunge) from Provan jumping clear from the challenge (lunge) Bertie came down on big Dave's ankle I think most Celtic fans who where at the game would agree with that.

Caption says ' Celtic fans queing for tickets at the hunnery'

Looks to be 50's? Would that have been safe at the ground, was their a significant number of police as you waited to get in?

Sorry for all the questions but it looks very normal in that image.

I suppose if you jump up to avoid a tackle you gotta come down :)
