Strangely - there were no Celtic players in the 1978 World Cup Squad.

Most were playing for English clubs, with 3 huns, 3 sheep and Alan Rough from the jags.
Probably the most notable absentee from that squad was Andy Gray who had won POTY and Young POTY that year in England.
He was left out in favour of Derek Johnstone.
Yes you read that correctly.
Johnstone fully merited selection after scoring 40 goals. He also scored two belters in the home internationals.

Ally picked Harper as he had had him at Aberdeen. Not the best move...

Johnstone was good that year and was well worth his selection.

He didn't get a start in the tournament did he? Even after the poor first 2 games

There was talk of a big fall out. Seems Ally fell out wit them all.

Even Danny might not have rescued Celtic in 77-78 but if he'd been fit for Argentina, along with McQueen, Scotland might have done a hell of a lot better

1-0 for Scotland with George Connelly scoring, according to this;

For some reason fatso fancied himself better at centre half, it might have been around then that that notion started, it was certainly late 70s he said wanted to play at the back.
