1974-75

Posted Image
This picture has been bugging me.

I estimate it to be far later than 1974-75. I couldn't put my finger on why, but I think I'm not pretty confident. I'd say it would be around 1985-86.

The reason I finally spotted was that until around 1984-85, the wall at the left of the main stand at the Celtic end had a more ornate and shaped top, whereas this is straight across, meaning that it had been replaced. There are pictures on the wiki of the same wall in it's previous form - not like this - dated to 1984.

Also, it cannot be any later than 1986, as the old half roof came off the Celtic end and was replaced by the bigger one which stretched over the entire Celtic end.

There is no way that this pic is from the 1970s.

Does anyone have an alternative rationale?...
I'd say it was 1985 when the turnstiles and perimeter wall were rebuilt, the new roof on the Celtic end
going up in summer 1986. The turnstiles there impede on the old railway formation, the earth embankment
had been removed by that time.

The pic below is earlier, probably mid-1970s.

Found this one which is dated as 1984. Clearly the turnstile wall is smaller than the original image.

SCF, 1974, what happened in those images?

Thank you for that St A, were the bottle throwers from our support?
Probably both sets of nutters ,it was quite common in the 70s CE.
Don't remember any trouble at the 1974 cup final v Dundee Utd.

Spot on JJ.

I knew that wall went up in around 1985, although it could have been any time between summer 1985 (the wall being rebuilt) to the end of season 1985, when the Celtic end was recovered.

So sometime pre-season 1985 to pre-season 86 it was then

I remember a bit of it in the '80's as well
Remember that day as if it was yesterday
It was raining bottles at both ends
Wasn't the 1974 Scottish Cup Final v Dundee Utd.
I was at the front the old Celtic End that day at Hampden when we won 3-0.
There wasn't any trouble.

Also, just looking at that arial shot...

Such good memories, but by God, the stadium and surrounding area really was a depressing pit. Barrowfield at the back of the Celtic end was amongst the most depressed areas in the whole of the East End, when the East End in general was pretty depressed.

I remember my aunt and uncle put in for a housing transfer (in part due to the fact that they now had an extra member of the family - me) and they were offered Barrowfield or the Bluevale Tower. They stuck with what they had and I squeezed in.

Last time I was home I literally didn't recognise the area surrounding Parkhead. I struggled to even get my bearings and direction. Such a lot of change in 20 odd years.

That wall of the Celtic End was rebuilt for the start of the 83/84 season.

The infamous disallowed penalty, May 1985?...
I think this is Aitken's goal in the 2-1 victory at the start of the 83-84 season? McGarvey got the winner late on?
