I'm trying to place the ground and I reckon it's either Rutherglen Glencairn's old park (now under the M74 extension), or Lochburn Park, Maryhill before it was revamped in the 90's.
Not the Glens or Maryhill.I think its a training match down in Ayrshire, most likely Troon.Im sure theres a pic in this thread somewhere of big Fallon carrying a bag of balls out with TC next to him.

Keep saying it,this thread should have its own sub forum.
Some man for the Juniors Snowy :worthy:

Scotland world cup 40 for Spain 1982 WC. 5 each from Celtic, Aberdeen and Rangers.

HTF did 5 Huns get in it ? They were murder in 1982 :ffs:

Best team from that lot would be:

Rough; McGrain McLeish Miller F Gray; Strachan Souness Burns Robertson; Dalglish Jordan

Reserve or youth side?
I think this is a Youth Cup Final at Pittodrie.
Celt nearest camera is, I think, Sandy Fraser.
I’m sure we won this one.

Aaargh!
Just checked. We lost 5-3 after extra time.
And we were 3-0 up. :(

Pic is Fraser putting Celtic 2-0 ahead.
Aberdeen were presented with the League trophy that night, which explains the big crowd.

From Aberdeen’s website:
Aberdeen won the BP Youth Cup after winning one of the greatest games ever seen at Pittodrie.
Trailing Celtic 3-0, the young Dons battled back to 3-3 and then won the final in extra-time 5-3.
Prior to the game Aberdeen received the League Championship Trophy.

EDIT (To add teams):
Aberdeen; Beckett, McCombie, Harvie, Green, Thomson, McRobb, Joe Miller (1989 cup final hero), Stevie Gray (now dead), Lawrence,
Paul Wright (won cup for Killie), David Robertson (ex-Hun diddy). Subs; Selbie, McLeod.
Celtic; Murray, Walsh, John Traynor, Derek Whyte, Barney McGee, Tony Shepherd, Steve Kean (ex-Blackburn boss, now in Brunei), Dougie McGuire, Dom Schiavone, Sandy Fraser,
Mills.
Referee; Jim McCluskey
Crowd 6,000

Your not far away from picking the best 11.Replace Souness with Aikten and Robertson withBurns and you would be nearer the Mark!

I agree.I was not Tommy Burns greatest fan but that season he was immense and if you were going on his displays with us that season then he should have been in the Scotland team not just the pool.

Sourness never really played well with Scotland, although a great player with Liverpool, and there was one game at hampden where sourness was booed every time he touched the ball.Once he went to the Huns he was reinvented as a Scotland great.

At the time I thought the standard of player in '82 had declined since the '60's and '70's.

I remember at the time McCulloch, who was decent, causing a stooshie about he would refuse to play Argentina if Scotland were to meet them.
Of the five huns, only Bett was a realistic chance of selection(away now to google the final 22!!! :ph43r: ).

At the risk of getting lynched here.....a midfield of Strachan,Souness and Wark.81/82 all three were a class above, particularly in europe.

The midfield players Stein took were...
Souness
Strachan
Wark
Hartford
He also took two and out wingers in Robertson and Provan,Robertsons place was always 100% certai, while Provan was always a direct understudy.
At best Tommy was pushing Hartford, who was probably past his peak, for place on the bench.

Always thought Jock boobed by taking too many central defenders - Miller, McLeish, Hansen, Narey, Evans.

One of the sad things is that because of his leg break Charlie Nicholas was out of consideration for this tournament.

He had to take Narey....who else was going to score a wonder goal against Brazil?
