That looks like it was painted by that Spanish lady that tried to "fix up" that really old painting of Jesus.

Penzance it was :worthy:

I was actually at that game, myself, my dad and a mate drove down from East Kilbride to Penzance overnight on the Friday night, found a B&B when we arrived then drove down to Lands End and St Ives, doing a spot of sightseeing.

Got blootered some social club on the Saturday night.

The game was on the Sunday afternoon, but it kicked off late in the day IIRC, it was an international weekend so the team was a mixture of players who weren't away and reserves. I thought Penzance played in Black and White stripes for some reason.

We chatted to some of the players in the social club after the game, where I won a ball autographed by the Celtic team in the raffle, then drove straight back to EK and went to work knackered on the Monday morning!

I've still got the ball, and the match programme somewhere.

Really difficult to place the game. Going by the crew collar on the jersey, it has to be season 1971-72, and by the dullness of the weather, sometime in winter. It couldn't be the 2-1 new year win over Rangers, because McCloy was in goal for them, and that clearly ain't him. Plus Kenny wore no 4 that day.

It could only be against Kilmarnock (5-1) or East Fife (2-1) in December... But Ally Hunter played in goal for Killie and I don't think that's him in the pic. The crowd looks too big for East Fife, but then if it was dreich the jungle would be mobbed. Only other possibilIties, home games when KD was definitely no 8, in the winter months would be Dundee in October (Dalglish hat-trick, 3-1), Airdrie or Hibs in January, or Dunfermline in February. We played Albion Rovers and Dundee in the Scottish Cup at home in January and February, but Dundee always wore navy or white against us then, and Kenny was no.7 against Rovers. Plus, I was at that game and I recall Rovers played in yellow jerseys.

Unless it's East Fife, I'm stumped!

Pretty sure it can't be East Fife - gold shirts and black shorts when they were in top division then and no reason to change

Ahhhhh! This must be one of the reserve games in 1971 when the Quality Street Gang thrashed their hun counterparts something like 4-1, 6-1, and 3-0 over the space of a few weeks (just before the big team, including Dalglish and Macari, did the same at Ibrox)!

Correct. It was 6-1, 4-1, 7-1.

The Hun goalie is Gerry Neef.

would this have been on the same day as the Ibrox disaster? We played the reserve games opposite to 1st team, correct? As this is the only Old Firm meting that year which KD would have featured for the reserves?

I was at all 3 of these games. I remember the one at Ibrox being a sunny evening and the huns all leaving at half time. It was to be 5 years before mammy would let me go to see a senior Old Firm match.
