League Cup tie played at Aberdeen on 2nd September 1967.

Celtic were awarded a penalty in a 5-1 victory.

Man was arrested for trying to attack the referee, a Mr J.R.P. Gordon of Newport-on-Tay.

The dog may have been an early casual.
A man not noted for his propensity for awarding penalties to Celtic. I was at at that game; IIRC, the other teams in the group were the Huns and Dundee United *... I think we won all six games.

OT: * That was a really tough section. IMO, seeding has completely ruined the League Cup which was a good wee tournament in the old format with the sections; the mini-leagues served as a series of warm-up matches with a competitive edge... the home and away QF's also threw up (in a non-vomiting way) interesting scenarios. Nowadays we get meaningless 'glamour' friendlies where the visiting club has to be paid a set fee. With the tournament no longer carrying any weight in terms of European qualification, why not re-introduce the old format as a way of playing fringe players, and also making it an all-in draw to give clubs from lower leagues a wee shot at a big trophy? (Although we've done no' too bad at giving wee teams a shot under the current format. )

I looked up the game on a free newspaper search after finding out when Aberdeen done away with the enclosure in front of the main stand.
Summer 1968.
Then had a wee look for Celtic results away to Aberdeen around that time.
The 5-1 game caught my eye.
The referee basher was a 42 year old from Aberdeen who claimed to be sober.
Take it he was just an angry man.
Can't understand why, Celtic were the Champions of Europe after all.
Was he living in hope.
Tough, he was fined £40.
Although not jailed, funnily enough.
No record of the dugs age or address.
Vaguely remember being at the game.
Not quite as nasty as the Dryburgh Cup Final up at Pittodrie in 1971.
Not one but hundreds of them came on the pitch at the end after they won the cup 2-1.

That is St. Johnstone, whose keeper at that time was also called Fallon (Harry?).

What a picture ! The Calton John Travolta ! Check the size of the collar (and the crucifix, God bless you Tam).

I'm sure Davie Provan said that until he got married in 1980 Tommy still stayed up a close in the Calton with his Ma.

The last of a kind right enough. :(

Joe McBride. What ground was that taken at?
I am sure I saw a bigger version of this in the Celtic View and it was taken during a pre season tournament in the Isle of Man in 1965 just after Joe had joined the Bhoys.

A couple of Celtic players were assaulted leaving the field of play at the final whistle.
