I fancied myself as a Celtic supporter since the 70's but my ignorance about the history of my club has been exposed by this thread but these images posted on here and especially the discussions about the images has been both educational & enjoyable. The knowledge that many of you have is astounding to say the least and I hope this thread keeps going till I get my degree on all things Celtic. :lol:

I have spent the last three days downloading from the Irish Newspaper Archives and so far have about 400 articles/images.

To me there is a lot of new information that I had not come across before like;

Celtic being in an Anglo/French Cup competiton in the late 50's.
Celtic trying to sign Di Stefano?
A Celtic Friendly that financed the Irish Olympic Team.
Celtic sending over first team players to compete in an RUC 5 a side league?
Newspaper editorials referring to Celtic fans as thugs.
How some Irish football clubs depended on Celtic friendlies for survival.
How a summer tour to the States nearly had to be cancelled due to money demands from players.

For me there is some great reading in the articles with some new images I had not seen before and I'm looking forward to hearing from the experts as to what actually was the case.

I have to figure out how to convert from PDF to jpeg to start loading but hopefully will post a few tomorrow.

I was proud as punch when he took over, I thought we would crush hunnery forever with the type of football he was known for :cry:

Very good stuff. Love the intro wondering just how Celtic won the big cup when they couldn't beat Shamrock Rovers in a friendly!

We used to play pretty strong teams for friendliies in Ireland unlike the youth teams we would send over today.We had more respect for our Irish fans then.
