Any of the experts explain the story of this image for me?

I get very sad looking still this photo. Before jock came we hadn't won a trophy in 8 years and won 1 league in 28 years. In 13 years under jock we won 10 leagues 2 trebles 6 doubles (league and one cup)and the the European cup yet he was treated shabbily by the old board. He also won leagues when Scottish clubs were doing well in Europe.I just wish big jock had lived long enough to see a stand named after him and a statue of him outside the ground. We wouldn't have been as big a club now if it hadn't of been for Jock Stein.

Great post.

I think as a club we have turned the corner since Fergus came in and now do things properly. The addition of Celtic Way leading up to Jocks statue has really cemented this.

That picture summarises for me the whole attitude of the old board. Desmond White completely blanking the great Jock Stein while giving big Billy a perfunctory handshake with his back turned to him..... What a total arse of a man he was!! It was the moment Jock knew his time with Celtic was over.

Hate that picture.

The great man fading into the background - so sad.

Robert Kelly might have contributed to our lean years after WW2 up until big jock became manager but when the Lisbon lions came on the scene he knocked back big bids for some of the lions. When Desmond White took over he couldn't sell the quality street kids quite enough and stopped that team having a chance to win the European cup which I'm sure they would have.

That picture is misleading.... Doesn't tell the whole story.

I know its fashionable to just criticise the board for anything, but wrt Jock's departure it's more complicated:

Very good article. I'd much rather believe that the club played fair by Jock.
