Sure Pat Crerand was involved in a massive brawl sometime during this tournament. Anyone confirm?

Pat Crerand is suspended on 5/7/61 for the first two games of the season by the SFA following his sending off in Czechoslovakia during a Scotland international. On 5/8/61 Celtic extended his suspension to four weeks without pay. This followed a 5-a-side tournament at Brockville in July when Crerand and Mike Jackson were both ordered off. Jackson, McNeill and Crerand were also involved in an SFA investigation of Scottish players playing in a game in Spain during the closed season for which money was taken at the gate. Their explanation, that they thought it was just a practise game was taken by the SFA and no further proceedings were heard

Falkirk Herald:

BROCKVILLE SPORTS: Came across some epic accounts of the infamous “Battle of Brockville” in a bag of cuttings last week.Celtic and Falkirk clashed in the semi-finals of the Five-a-Side tournament and Dunky McKay put Celtic one ahead. Pat Crerand was sent off after a clash with Tommy Lowry and mayhem ensued. Jim Oliver equalised and then all hell broke loose. Mike Jackson and Tommy Lowry were ordered off after trading punches. Objects were thrown at “keeper” Billy McNeil and finally Falkirk went through by a single corner. There are several unpublished stories about that game, but that’s for another day. Incidentally - Falkirk lost 3-1 to Motherwell in the final

Tbf in the pic Cesar,Mike Jackson and Jim Kennedy don't look to happy you can almost sense there is going to be retribution dished out and Pat just looks as if he is weighing up which one of the crowd he is going to set about first.

Edit - Good job the SFA never found out about the game they played in in Donegal at Moville. ;)

John Fallon tells of the constant and sustained sectarian abuse from Falkirk player Tommy Lowry, brought to the club by McRae via Ballymena Utd, a vile bigot according to Fallon who refused at the last minute to play in a charity match (league select) upon hearing the benefactors were Roman Catholic

I'm pretty sure the guy on the bench is John Fitzsimmons who was the club Dr at the time.

That wee temporary stand was only built for the game and taken down afterwards is my understanding. Can anyone confirm?
I know UEFA were keen to reward the Portugese FA with a final after the good work done by Benfica in promoting the tournie and of course their success in it, i wondered if there's any other background to why the match was played where it was in a ground with only 3 sides instead of say Benfica's ground?

I woulda thought the bigwigs would have wanted a ground with a fancier main stand than the Stadio Nacional was capable of?

Not complaining at choice of ground of course, just wondered if there was a story behind it?

I can only think it was because it was Portugals National stadium....of which they were quite proud? info from wiki (not always 100% ;) )

The Estádio Nacional (English: National Stadium), also known as Estádio do Jamor, is a stadium that used to be the Portuguese national football ground. It is located in the Jamor sports complex, in Oeiras, near Lisbon. It was designed by Jacobetty Rosa and the building works started in 1939, with its inauguration happening on 10 June 1944 (Portugal Day) by the Council president António Oliveira Salazar. Architecturally the stadium is noteworthy for its open east side, unusual for a stadium otherwise featuring a typical oval configuration. Its current capacity is 39,000[2] and it is the venue for the Portuguese football cup final.

The stadium traditionally hosts the final of the Portuguese Cup since 1946; only 5 times was this game played on other venues. In total, 52 Cup finals have been played on this ground. Many Portuguese football fans believe time has taken its toll on the historic stadium, given the fact other, more modern and comfortable stadiums have been built (namely after Euro 2004) and that the final should be moved to a newer ground despite the tradition; nevertheless, the Portuguese FA has many times dismissed this possibility. The most prestigious international game ever staged at the Estádio Nacional was the 1967 European Cup final, played between Celtic and Internazionale with the former winning by 2-1 and becoming the first British European champion team, nicknamed the Lisbon Lions.
