Could look at these for ages and keep finding things that make me smile.
The hand that belongs to some guy who has obviously done a diving header on his way to the game made me laugh (back left, in front of Jesse Owens man)

Correct
Big Tam was a striker at Dumbarton and United.

Remember being at Ibrox for OF game and he made his debut (think we'd signed him on a Friday night) but he really came into his own as a centre back and loved a goal against Rangers
is this the Hamish McAlpine penalty match?

Spotted the Evening Citizen paper on the left hand side used to be able to get it before the game with a large picture of one of the Hooped Heroes wonder who the player is on that one.

Absolutely fantastic picture loads of schoolboy memories of attending games about this time .

What's the main points of confusion and i'll try and explain it better sur?

I'm not even sure I know where to start!

I'll see if it makes more sense to me broken down a bit...

OK, first thing is that the terraces look really shallow, but the wall is still in the same place at the back of the terrace...

Meaning that I'm confused as to how they could extend it any further back...IT WASN'T EXTENDED FURTHER BACK. THE MURDOCH PIC IS FROM A SHALLOW ANGLE MAKING THE JUNGLE LOOK SMALLER THAN IT WAS.

The only thing I can think of is that they raised the terrace about 6 feet or so in height, so that the back wall was shorter in the process...CORRECT. DONNO HOW MUCH THEY RAISED IT BUT THE PROCESS OF CONCRETING THE TERRACING MEANT LITERALLY LAYING CONCRETE STEPS ON TOP OF THE GROUND THAT WAS ALREADY THERE. THE COMPLICATION WAS THAT AS WELL AS CONCRETING THE TERRACING, THEY WANTED TO INCREASE THE ANGLE OF THE GRADIENT TO GIVE A BETTER VIEW. THEY ALSO WANTED THOSE AT THE FRONT TO HAVE A RAISED VIEW IN LINE WITH THE CELTIC END. (IN THE MURDOCH PIC YOU SEE THOSE AT THE FRONT ARE LOWER DOWN THAN THOSE IN THE CELTIC END. THIS IS BECAUSE THE CELTIC END WAS CONCRETED FIRST, THEN THE JUNGLE, THEN THE RANGERS END, (AGAIN A YEAR AFTER THE ROOF WENT UP).

And extended as you said, by abut 5-6 yards at the front of the running track to maintain the natural gradient of the new slope...THIS WAS THE PLAN BUT I CAN'T SEE ANY EVIDENCE FROM ARIEL VIEWS THAT THE FRONT WAS EXTENDED. I THINK WHAT THEY MEAN IS THE TERRACING INSIDE THE PERIMETER WALL WAS EXTENDED, NEARER TO THE PERIMETER.

But in that case, in the European parade picture, it must have been before any of the concreting was done, and all you had was the new roof and back wall, and before the terrace was extended out the front...CORRECT. THE JUNGLE WAS USED IN THE 66/67 SEASON WITH A NEW ROOF BUT THE SAME OLD TERRACING.

And what did they do to put the exits in and construct the rivers of fish alleyway beneath the jungle? CLARIFICATION NEEDED ON THE WORD EXITS. I DIDN'T MISS A CELTIC GAME IN THE JUNGLE FROM AROUND 1978 TO 1994, I NEVER WENT ANYWHERE ELSE APART FROM MIBBES HALF A DOZEN GAMES AT THE VERY VERY MAXIMUM. FROM MEMORY THE "EXITS" NUMBERED 6 TO 9 TOOK YOU TO THE TOILETS. THE WALKWAY IN FRONT OF THE EXITS WERE THE ACCESS INTO THE JUNGLE.

Just burrow under the old terracing? HOW THESE WERE CREATED I DONT KNOW BUT RAISING THE HEIGHT OF THE TERRACING AT THE BACK WOULD HAVE CREATED SPACE UNDERNEATH, ADDED TO THE ORIGINAL TERRACING THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN FLATENED TO PROVID SPACE FOR TOILETS WITH ONE BIG LONG TROUGH. AGAIN FROM MEMORY THE ONLY OTHER UPGRADE IE A "PIE STALL" I WAS EVER AWARE OF WAS AT THE TOP LEFT CORNER OF THE JUNGLE NEAREST THE CELTIC END BUT I NEVER HEARD OF ANYONE EVER TRYING TO GET THERE, NEVER MIND RETURN ALIVE WITH A PIE AND A BOVRIL INTACT.

I'm sorry. I'm befuddled by this, and I have Aspergers, so I'll obsess about it until it is clear in my mind. :comp:
I've stuck my thoughts in caps boss just so its easier to make out.

Righto!

This post has actually cleared up almost all of the mystery I had about how the jungle had changed.

Thanks. The biggest relation in itself is that the gradient of the terrace slope was increased as the steps were raised at the back and not extended out in front. That has totally cleared up the confusion, so cheers. It would have consumed my thoughts for weeks if I hadn't managed to resolve it.

Thanks again.

That's magnificent!

Really evocative.

I'd guess that it was from around 1969 to maybe 1971?

Not yet any flares and 70s style fashions, but also a smattering of scarves etc which I'm led to believe were not all that common prior to the late 60s.

You look at some of these people and wonder where they are now. The young boy at the front would be around 60 now!
