Very very good question.

The new roof went up in 1966 and its first appearance was at the 4-1 game v Man Utd.
What you are seeing in May 1967 at the Big Cup homecoming is the unfinished concrete terracing of the Jungle a year after the new roof went up.
The terracing was built up higher than the original ash and wooden terracing and it also went 5 yards further towards the pitch.

Entrances to the Jungle were from the Celtic End and it was also possible to walk right round to the Celtic End from the Rangers end via the Jungle.

Right! So that begins to make sense now.

What we're seeing in the Bobby Murdoch picture that Tavern Bus posted subsequently was the finished terrace. Around 1968-69 I'm assuming.

I've been looking or a few historical references online and the terrace from 1967 and preceding was about half the size of the eventual one with no exits. As you say, the sole access would have been from the Celtic end.

So basically on the picture posted from the early 1990s (judging by the sponsorship on the facia of the rangers end) shows that the old terrace reached up only as far as the foot of the entrances, which were yet to be constructed?

That makes a lot of sense now, but what we are in effect seeing in the picture I was querying was a false wall at the back of the jungle until the top half and exits were completed?

That makes far more sense.

it means that originally the jungle or cowshed as it was, didn't go all the way back onto the road at Janefield street, whereas anyone familiar with walking up and down it in the 70s-90s would recall that the back of the jungle baked right onto the road, with not even room for a pavement.

Thanks for this. It has cleared up a lot of stuff in my head.

And when they built the new terracing they created the "Rivers of Pish" walkway
underneath the terracing.

By the time I started going in the jungle in around 1986 onwards, I am led to believe that the walkway of pish had improved by some degree.

However, I still would not have chanced going down there when in need. I'd have taken my chances with holding it in rather than risk the experience...
